Synthyard

New life

This track has an "airy" feel to it and I guess that inspired the title. My friend titled this... Yes, I have friends. 

I think out of all the tracks I've done, I'm mostly proud of this one. I don't have the original version anymore, but I plan on redoing this track some day. The problem is I don't remember the sounds I combined to achieve the main melody sound. (2015)

Airport

This is a completely new track in the sense that it's not based on any of my older material. I listened to many synthesizer tracks on SoundCloud and got inspired by some of them. I experimented with some new rhythm ideas as well (triplets, sextuplets and such). Those are kind of hard to do on the KORGM01D and in fact impossible to get to sound awesome.

It's time for me to face the fact that I'm working with limited equipment... Limited sounds with near zero tweaking possibility and no convenient way to get odd-time rhythms to work well. I also have only eight tracks to work on (per song) and that's all the instrumentation I'm allowed. I'm still ok with how this one sounds and will continue to get the maximum out of the piece of equipment I've got for now. 

I almost didn't release this tune, because I thought it sounded embarrassing. I'm glad I did though, because this has since become my most popular track. (2018)

Cityscapes

Going faster this time! I like songs that take you for a ride and last under four minutes.

I struggled with this one a bit. The backbone came very easily in less than an hour, but all the embellishments took a lot of time. Whew, I'm really glad this is done and out now. I sure did work at the upper limit of the system’s capabilities! This is like a symphony and I enjoy it very much. What next? (2018)

In for a Thrill

It's sometimes easy to forget who you are and some bad things in life are better to be dealt with and buried afterwards. Occasionally you dig everything up again, but realize it's not worth it and continue living your life stronger.

My goal on this one was to capture a certain mood with nice melodies and on the whole something that makes you think. (2018)

Burning Past

I was planning to visit my former hometown to see my little brothers one Friday, but felt really tired and sick so I didn't go. I also didn't feel like driving after a tough week. I instead spent the late evening on a sofa when I suddenly heard the intro bassline in my head and had to get up fast to record it. I worked out the rest of the tune during the weekend and was (secretly) glad I didn't go anywhere that Friday. Otherwise this track probably wouldn't have seen the light of day. It's funny how these things are sometimes.

The soundscape depicts the suburbs where I live again now after several years. I'm not a hero though.

Suburban Heroes

Simple chords and 80s soft (lame) rock inspired this track. I wanted to include some classical elements as well and those are near the end (1:52 onwards). I also tried to keep repetition at a minimum. That means following each section with a different one. Well, as much different as possible, but still keeping the flow interesting. Another goal was to keep this track under three minutes.

I think music is all about melody and this is what came out of that thought this time. I noticed a couple of ”wrong notes” here and there, but that’s part of what makes music real. (2018)

I'ts kinda bittersweet. Sometimes you just hope so hard that something would happen and you know at the same time that it's not going to. Anyways, if you manage to keep your wits you will learn and some day the hope will not be in vain. That's what I hope anyways. :D

Fool's hope

5150 refers to the California law code for the temporary, involuntary psychiatric commitment of individuals who present a danger to themselves or others due to signs of mental illness. It has been more generally applied to people who are considered threateningly unstable or “crazy.” 

During the process of creating this EP and the creation of Ōsé as a whole, I willingly confined myself to my studio to work until I couldn’t work anymore, today marks 6 months of my self inflicted 5150. The things I grew to become comfortable with had been driving me crazy, so I had to step away. In the process, I learned a whole lot about myself, and my craft, in between many mental breakdowns. 
I separated myself from all the things that I knew were bringing me down; such as local bars and clubs on the weekends, and dove into something I knew made me happy, my music. Although it has been quite a hard road to get here, with plenty of doubtful moments and countless times ready to call it quits, I came out with a better head on my shoulders, and something that I’m very proud of, as well as an improved mood and new outlook. If you aren’t happy, you must separate yourself from the things that are making you that way, no matter how difficult to do so; and create something new. If that doesn’t work, it’s back to the drawing board; but you must not give up, there’s so much more out there!

Burning Witches - Sea Of Lies

I love music and I'm on a never-ending journey of creating great melodies. I hate to categorize music and I am simply "Electronic" or whatever my genre really is. "Synthwave" maybe. If it sounds good it most likely is. If it doesn't, someone will like it anyway. I also think music should be fun.

All the music is made using KORGM01D. I'm mainly into heavy rock guitar music and influenced by many great guitarists of the 70s and 80s. Metalhead making synth music is nothing new, but I'm enjoying this.

It's hard to choose any personal favorites, but some of them are definitely "In for a Thrill", "Airport", "Catch 'em Running" and "Burning Past".

Oh, and please don't follow me or like my tracks if you're not going to listen to anything. I like keeping the stats real.
