I love doing remixes! I think it's because of my Hip-Hop background: you start from something that's not yours (a sample or an artist's track) and you freak the whole thing to make it your own somehow...

A snippet featuring my 2 reworks for Love & Mercy on Man Make Music! First up is the digi-only Quarion Remix, a lil SH-101 journey that ventures in different territories. Oh, there's some 808 action at some point too! 
Then there's the vinyl-only QRN dub, a stripped-down-to-the-bone version using only my good old MPC 3000 and the 909. Which one do you prefer?

A remix for DIRT CREW, one of Berlin's finest House Duo. I had a lot of fun doing this remix and I tried a couple of different things (drunken siren, "Hip-Hop" beat programming, etc...). The response so far has been very good!

After a 2-year hiatus from the mothership, Kim Brown return to Just Another Beat with a new 12“, including the brand-new track “Visiona 1970“ and an exceptionally impressive remix of “Nabi“, one of the outstanding tracks off their debut album “Somewhere Else It’s Going To be Good“, beautifully executed by Quarion.

It was Quarion aka Yanneck Salvo himself who approached the Berlin-based duo, being eager to work on his own version of the track and taking it to the next level. The result equals en epic transformation. Using only the key melodic elements of the rather quiet and lush original, Quarion’s version is much more than a remix. It’s more like a cover version, showcasing his own unique approach of how to first dismantle and then carefully, bit by bit, rebuild the peak time moment of the dancefloor. Clocking in at just under 10 minutes, to be enjoyed best from start to finish, this is a voyage extraordinaire.

On the flip, “Visiona 1970“ presents Kim Brown in a glistening rainbow of deep colours. With freely shuffling hi-hats, intimate percussion and some of their most beautiful melodies yet, this track marks a turning point for the project. Having mainly released remixes for other artists recently, Ji-Hun Kim and Julian Braun have been constantly working on a new album as well, which will finally see the light of day not long after the release of this EP. In the meantime, please enjoy these 2 tracks.

Marbert Rocel - With Your Love (Quarion Remix) - Snippet

This is a remix I did for Jamie Lloyd, one of Sydney's most talented musician. 
                  The track came out in January 08 on Future Classic, backed up with a Soultourist remix of "You're Out or In?". In other words, it's a Drumpoet release in disguise. The virus keeps spreading ;-)
                  Concerning my remix, I wanted something with more "ooomph" than my previous tracks...judge it for yourself, but I think this one is on a rave tip!

All Comes Back

youANDme - All Comes Back (Feat. Gjaezon - Quarion's Motion Tracker Dub) - Snippet

This one was done solely with my good ol' MPC 3000. Although the machine has limitations that would make any software aficionado die laughing (we're talking about a sampler/sequencer that was released in 1994 here!), I feel that the Akai MPC 3000 is untouchable when it comes to making beats and there's only one word to describe the sound: "phat"!
So I've been messing around with the machine for a moment and then I came accross John Daly's "Meltdown" (on One Track) which has bonus loops on the B-side...you can imagine what happened next: I sampled some of John's sounds in the MPC, added my own and started to work on what I envisioned as a "100% MPC" song.
I then sent the track to John Daly and was surprised to hear that he wanted to release it! My Remix came out at the beginning of 2011 on One Track.
Everything you hear was done in the MPC and recorded via the main output. I just added a limiter to keep the level tight, but otherwise, this is straight up RAW material. 
Since it's a bit more stripped down than my usual Quarion stuff, I came up with the "QRN" moniker, a tribute to one of my favorite comics as a kid ;-) 
Hopefully this track will be the first in an ongoing series... 

Meltdown (QRN re-melt)

This is a remix I did for Class 71 on Four:Twenty.  I wanted to build something that had a similar vibe to my remix for Jamie Lloyd, but take it to the next level somehow. I also wanted this remix to have a "dramatic" kind of intro (like in some Drum n' Bass classics from the 90's) where you know something big is about to drop after the tense first 2 minutes ;-)...

A remix I did for top notch label Connaisseur. The original is by Andrès Garcia, another amazing talent out of Geneva...I took the vietnamese vocal loop from his version and flipped it into another Quarion breakdown madness, complete with deep pads and sub-bass stabs. Hope you'll like it!

No More Tears (Quarion Rmx)

A remix I did for one of Berlin's finest House ambassador, Filippo Moscatello aka DJ Naughty coming out on Moodmusic. The track is quite different from my usual stuff...mainly because I felt I was locked in a formula and wanted to stretch out. "Houz" is more on the edge with a definitive "live" feel...anyway, make your own opinion!

This is remix for my good friend Christian Vance. Residing in Melbourne, Christian is doing proper Detroit Techno: groovy, deep and forward thinking.
The original track is a favourite of mine: a wicked floor filler that is also emotional! 
The EP is coming out very soon on PERSPECTIV and is also featuring an amazing remix by Amsterdam Nu Techno prince MINZ.
Check for yourself but I honestly feel this EP is one of 2008's essentials...
