Le soleil n'est pas encore là, les étoiles ont disparu et les lumières de la ville s'agitent déjà de leur scintillement mécanique. En les traversant on peut les étirer à l'infini et en faire les filaments d'un cocon dans lequel prolonger la nuit. Les lueurs orangées des tableaux de bord évoquent la chaleur d'un feu de cheminée, dans un microcosme animé par les voix minuscules et familières de la radio que le bas volume a réduit à une présence de mots heureusement indistinguables.

The sun is still not out there, the stars vanished, and the city lights already jitter in their mechanical twinkle. By passing through, one can stretch them into the filaments of a cocoon in which the night can be extended. The orange radiances from the dashboard call to mind the heat of a fireplace in a microcosm inhabited by the tiny and familiar voices of the radio, of which the volume, set low, narrowed to a presence of thankfully undistinguishable words.

I decided to put my sound card (Motu UltraLite Mk3)on the desktop, and use the gear that had been sleeping for a while. Here an Akai S950, clearly under exploited for the test, and a Yamaha REV100 Digital Reverberator that sounds deliciously (or awfully, depends on your taste) digital indeed ! Grainy !

It took time to set up, and the track is not fantastic, but hey, it works ! ! !

It had been a while, so here is a bit of music.

HEY ! IT IS DOWNLOADABLE ! HOW COOL IS THAT ?

Playing with my Akai S950 sampler, I wasted hoooours slicing drum samples, and thought it would be nice to add some melody. So I added a pad with my Korg Poly-800, and some bass with Ableton. It was very long to do this, especially on a two-line monochrome tiny screen but it is somewhat satisfying !

Here we gowowo for some oldie-Squarepusher-Big Loada-style broken sound ! Only cheaper !

Picture of the inside of my actual S950 when I was cleaning the inside. Like a small town in there !

[Just a side note, the S950 is hyped but I think it is quite overrated. They became stupidly pricey but consider 2018 standards and you'll notice very quickly that it is not efficient or convenient at all, it is heavy and takes a lot of room, the screen is tiny and the basis of that is menu diving, all the way... Apparently some are looking for it to have a punchier Hip-Hop Sound... There has got to be another way. If your primary concern is not the fixed resonnance filter which makes speed drums bubbly [cool] but everything else blurry [not cool], avoid it, and don't be ripped off by sellers.]
