Been going through a lot of transitions and processing the past year both on a macro level just as much as on a personal level and the main thing getting me through it is knowing there’s green grass waiting for me across the way. The hopes for fun, chill, relaxing days at the river in the sun with your best friends. The comfort of a hug from your mom or grandma. The reminder that everything is fluid, and that things are not black and white or forever (but in a good way.)”

These are some of the throwbacks we like to play for our events here in SD. We both grew up during the late 90’s and early 00’s so the tunes are nostalgic. This reminds me of a night out, dancing with all of my femme and LGBTQ friends. It takes me back to fond memories of growing up, and building strong femme friendships."

Chulita Marvelouz - Nunca Voy a Olvidarte

It's been over a year since my last "somft" mix so I decided to put one together yesterday and this is what I came up with... I was originally working on a Christmas mix, but timing didn't allow that to happen. So since that didn't pan out, I bring you "someofmyfavoritethingsdecember2014". As I began to collect and spin songs from my East Side Story collection, I realized the majority of these artists are black and composed by black folks, yet these compilations and songs are considered to be "Chicano Oldies." 

This mix was inspired by my love for oldies, the importance of black lives, anti-blackness in the non-black chicanx/latinx community and the appropriation and erasure of black culture. 

Every song on this mix is sung and/or played by a black man or woman and every song on this mix is directly from my personal East Side Story collection Volumes 1-12. Enjoy!
