Born in Sydney, Tom "Crosscut" Wilson spent most of his life as a gold miner in Western Australia. This poem first appeared  in "The Sun" (Kalgoorlie) , on 12 May 1907, and is just one of the many he wrote about the goldfields.  
Though nearly 50, he signed up for WW1 and saw action at Gallipoli.    He returned to Australia and died in the 1920s. A contemporary of Henry Lawson's, he apparently knew Lawson.

A QUIET MOMENT

Complete poem by Henry Lawson (1867 - 1922) as published in The Bulletin in 1892.   There are other versions,  with titles like  "The Stranger from the Bush", and "The Bastard from the Bush", etc. but it is uncertain who wrote these. This one, written by Lawson, apparently passed the censor.
