Narcissism is one of the 3 personality traits that make up the dark triad of personality traits, it shares the ability to manipulate and convince with Machiavellianism, the 2nd dark triad trait. 
Machiavellianism is the highly manipulative and amoral dark trait. “High machs” are calculating and strategic in their relationships with people and are usually solely future focused on self serving goals. Its defined by a particular callousness it shares with the 3rd dark trait
The 3rd dark trait is Psychopathy which shares selfishness with narcissism. Psychopaths lack empathy and remorse for others

Outline what you need to not burn out - how can i tell when i am not functioning at my best? How can i tell when work is taking over my life? How can i notice stress before it gets critical? What am I unmotivated to do? (Do I have to do it?)

Set learning or change goals instead of achievement goals
Pretty well known 1979 Harvard study of MBA students - those with learning oriented goals had higher GPAs on average and reported a better experience overall in their programs
Generally, we feel more positively about learning or acquiring than we do about thresholds (why you think we love a good YouTube tutorial so much?)
Achievement - I want to pass my licensure exam; Learning - I want to study 3 therapeutic theories outside of the one I love and use regularly 
Achievement - I want my locs to reach mid back this year; Learning - I want to figure out which oil helps my locs retain moisture
Achievement - I want to read one book a month; Learning - I want to discover my favorite Toni Morrison novel this year
Make it a challenge rather than a threat
Threat - I need to practice for my defense or I will fail it; Challenge - I need to prepare to have the type of defense I want
Threat - I need to lose weight or I will get diabetes and have a heart attack; Challenge - I want to find healthy habits that will support my wellbeing
Make it meaningful
Tie it to a personal value, bc then its internalized
