Ricardo Villalobos - Peculiar

Continuing in the fine tradition of stomping grooves, I am extra excited to unveil the second instalment of the AGILITY Various Artists Compilation series. Fabian Argomedo kicks things off with classy shuffling and gigantic subs, later allowing a disjointed soulful vocal to spice things up. Rafa Barrios&#8217; picks up from there with some intense rollage and smooth bass, and &#8220;Yacid&#8221; from Ramiro Lopez holds things down with a mighty rhythm section and busy snare edits. 
&nbsp; Things take a completely different turn with &#8220;Trauma&#8221;, where a rubber-band bass permeates the thick atmospherics and intricately programmed elements.&nbsp; Sean Collier adds some welcomed bleakness to the package which leads to Juan Ddd&#8217;s cheekily titled &#8220;Dead In My Garden&#8221;, bringing the dizzyness from the ever-fluctuating bassline.

Uto Karem teams up with usual Agile suspect Ramiro Lopez for a sleek, nocturnal ride full of twists and turns. 
 &#8220;Breaking&#8221; gallops along with an infectious bassline and the now-trademarked snare action we&#8217;ve come to expect. Pitched-down vocals command respect and reverence as they lead the breakdown to a mayhemic climax. 
 On &#8220;Boundaries&#8221;, the crackling rhythm section paves the way for a constantly evolving stab that runs throughout the whole track, over rumbling subs and bubbling low-end percussion which emanates pure class.

Since forming over a decade ago, Seaweed Rhythm has quietly established itself as one of the most consistent and lovingly curated labels on the European underground circuit. Founded by Stockholm-based artist Zlene, the label has grown from a grassroots platform for close friends and local talent into an internationally respected outlet that’s home to some of minimal’s most cherished names – think Melchior Productions Ltd, Silat Beksi, and Priku. But behind the heavyweight roster and steadily growing discography is a genuine sense of community, care, and curiosity that drives everything they do.

Operating out of a studio near the sea, Zlene and his collaborators have long infused their work with a palpable connection to nature. Whether through field recordings, aquatic textures, or the subtle activism of donating label profits to wildlife causes, Seaweed Rhythm’s identity is shaped as much by its environment as it is by the dancefloor. There’s a tactile, almost hand-made quality to each release – from the analogue warmth of the sound design to the tattoo-inspired sleeve artwork painted by long-time friend Thure Melander.

Alongside co-running NEU, a beloved basement club in central Stockholm, and hosting intimate events across Sweden and Europe, Zlene has created something that feels both expansive and personal. With a string of standout releases on the horizon, including a new vinyl EP with Egyptian artist Shadi Megallaa and contributions from the likes of Iuly.B and Andu Simion, Seaweed Rhythm’s steady momentum shows no signs of slowing. But at its core, the ethos remains the same: make and share music with love, and let the rest flow naturally. Two German talents in Chris Wood & Christian Burkhardt link up once again to release their 'A New Life' EP on the Ibizan label Oblack, which features a transformative remix by Einzelkind that has recently received support from Ricardo Villalobos during his DJ sets. 

Throughout Einzelkind's long career he's been a fixture in respected underground circles, supplying the scene with standout tracks on labels like Pressure Traxx, the label he co-founded with Frost, as well as Cocoon Recordings, Housewax, Infuse and more. Now this new ripper, with a wicked bass-line, grooving percussion and subtle atmospherics, is proving once again that Einzelkind produces unique anthems aimed directly at the dancefloor.

The 'A New Life' EP is set for release August 10.
