It's been a fair few months but Josh Wink's soon to be back on Ovum Recordings. The last time he released on his 21-year-old label was at the end of last year with the wriggly 'Talking To You' and his forthcoming release comes in the form of the three-track 'Denial'. 

It'll be an addition to his long list of releases on Ovum and bits he's put out on Intec, Minus, R&S and Poker Flat Recordings in the past, including Carl Cox collab 'It's The Machines' and the 'Seeing Through Shadows'/'Have To Get Back' 12" he put out with Loco Dice in 2006.

August 8th sees Intec’s esteemed label co-heads Carl Cox and Jon Rundell both put their own unique spin on Josh Wink’s illustrious 2014 hit ‘Talking To You’, distributed via the aforementioned imprint.

This impressive two-track offering follows a whole host high quality 2016 Intec releases including the Beatport chart topping ‘Intec 100’, which last saw Carl and Jon team up to deliver a release well worthy of its billing. 

Carl Cox’s interpretation commences the release, boasting the original’s ‘I’m Talking To You’ vocal sample set to a driving Tech House rhythm with a looped-up manipulated chord riff and an abundance of squelchy acid bleeps. 

Jon Rundell’s re-work follows and ventures down more of a darker Techno route, utilising the original’s vocal sample and acidline but adding a pounding TR-909-laden groove, sinister sound effects and a clever arrangement.   

You can catch the Ovum Records label boss Josh Wink perform alongside Carl at his final ever season at Space Ibiza (every Tuesday until September 20th) on August 16th.

‘Shoelaces’ is everything a BNR and Wink collaboration should be. The staggered electro kicks set the pace while intricate tones and demonic vocal slurs rumble in the forefront. It’s a potent combination and one that reaffirms why Wink has stayed in the spotlight all these years.

Originally released on vinyl by R&S in 1994, ‘Meditation Will Manifest’ was re-earthed in 2016 by Nina Kraviz and Ricardo Villalobos, becoming a secret weapon on dancefloors 22 years after its original release. On December 16, ‘Meditation Will Manifest’ gets its first digital release on R&S.
 
Josh Wink has always been ahead of musical trends and walks his own path in dance music. From a young age Wink was exposed to different mysticism and consciousness philosophies. “It wasn’t a big, popular or trendy thing to do at the time, but I was 14 and just did what my mother did… Releasing tracks like ‘Meditation Will Manifest’ and ‘Higher States of Consciousness’, people looked at me as being this deeply profound spiritual guy, but I never really thought about it in that way, even though I’m really into repetitive, transcendental and meditative rhythms. After brief jaunts on Intec, Boysnoize Records and R&S​, Wink returns to his Ovum home with the no-holds-barred 'Resist' EP and here we see a return to those ferocious, frisky acid roots. 

There are a couple of venomous Truncate remixes of the title track but the original mix is where the heat is really at. The acidic bassline whips around like a snake-charmer's mutant melody and the demonic vocal is repeated and looped until the point of meltdown. 

It's exactly the sort of track you'd expect Wink to make and we're really fucking happy he has.
