Having already premiered Sound Mirror's previous release by Koloman, we've been keeping an eye on the German label. Their new output is the "Missn U" EP by none other than its co-founder Orson Wells, back on his own imprint after a noteworthy detour via 777 Recordings last year. Three uncompromising and varied tracks, with the beautiful electro tinged opener "G.I.T.S." followed by the distorted and dreamlike title track "Missn U" on A side, while the deep and Detroit like "Red Planet" on the flipside is another demonstration of the producer's mastery of dancefloor tension. As usual with Sound Mirror it's a hand-stamped white label in randomly changing stamp colours. Don't sleep !

For the first release of CWR, the Lyon based producer 9beats takes us to a trip to the red planet with a 4-track EP mixing interesting textures and sci-fi pads, at the edge of ambient and techno. The first track, "Reconnaissance Mission", brings you instantly to another dimension and shows up the first feeling when reaching it. The second track, "Unexpected Encounter" traduces the feeling of explorators when they face a living entity out there with this dark and powerful loop sprinkled with alien voices. Then come "Dust Storm" and "Silent Walk", describing the main ambiance of the expedition.

As recent scientific studies (ANITA) suggest, our planet Earth might also be producing some strange "upward going" cosmic waves of particles that are not accounted in the Standard Model. So far, nobody knows what is the source of those game changing particles randomly observed. Random discoveries are the best a scientist could hope for. Taking a step back, this hope and curiosity of the unknown could also be the driving forces that pushed Soviet Union explorer to launch the SG3 project in 1970. Their goal was to drill earth’s crust as deep as possible to get a better understanding of our home structure and composition.

For the third release of Cosmic Wave Records, commands are given to techno artist Vardae for a journey into planet Earth deepest borehole: SG3. Starting from Level 0 (0m) in 1970, the first two tracks of the EP emphasize the hope and curiosity that soviet drillers could feel when they started drilling, using uplifting and peaceful harmonies on pads conducted by subtle rhythms and groovy basses. As the journey goes on into the mists of the deep, Vardae vision takes the listener to darker places, using a nice balance of cycling rhythms and mental atmospheres, with a touch of sparkling acid lines. It is year 1989 when, under extreme conditions (180°C), the drillers reaches the deepest place of planet Earth so far: minus 12 262 meters.The four original compositions are packed with two remixes from CWR residents. KLI.M proposes a stripped back and percussive oriented remix of Level 0, Diapasøn takes the listener to his own deep, remixing 12 262, with dark resonant synth sustained by trippy grooves.

You never really know how it can sound when the feelings and the reality of the everyday life starts shaping the pulse and the characters of a track, before even dropping a kickdrum or a bass in the mix. The composition of the elements making Atomos Ep, by spanish artist Korben Nice, is filled and configured to bring the listener between the velocity of techno and the several rhythmical steps of the playing parts. Korben Nice indeed reveals the effect of life and its constant instability and changes and how it affects the process of creation.

The first track, Atom, kicks off the journey with hypnotic sounds that sets the ground for a deep and dark voice, fading and letting the space again for more percussive sounds. It introduces the unit that will then serve as the building matter. The second track, Isotope, gives no relief to the listener, ringing anguishing bells and contrasting with the tribal sounds and uplifting pads. The sound contradiction is at the center of the track and will perfectly serve the dancefloor. Light then comes in with Atomos third track, Circonio, and announces the pounding techno machinery. Still, ray of nostalgia and melancholia can be felt piercing the systemic wheelwork, leaving the listener changed without even noticing.

The three original compositions are packed with a brilliant remix of the track Atom by techno artist Eric Fetcher which emphasizes in a really personal way the global ambiance of Atomos.

New release coming soon on Cosmic Wave Records from a close friend of the label, Mersel. Based in Paris and focusing on modular synthesizers, he has been producing great work these past years balancing between techno and deep techno.

For this EP, he was inspired by his last trip to Tokyo, and more specifically Shibuya ward. He describes it as a city of contrast, balanced between the speed of crowded streets like crossing avenue and more peaceful places. The EP starts with "Donqi Preps", a slow and organic tribal beat layered by moving atmospheres. Then comes "Chy", more deep techno approach where the synths lead the track from beginning to end with a great evolution and wide spatialization. The third track "Clock Signal" shows the rawer and more techno side of Mersel’s project, this track refers to the speedy and crowded side of Tokyo city. The last track "Donqi" carries on this dark and cycling vibe driven by a strong kick and groovy rhythms.

With this fifth release from Mersel, the label show its independence and unique style exploring the thin path between techno and atmospheric music.

When we created the label in 2017, our idea was to push new talents and to create an artist community following our philosophy. The six tracks here describe well the universe we want to promote, raw, mental and sci-fi techno with a big attention to details and sound design. 

The various starts with a close friend of the label Soul Tide Zone that show us another side of his project with a powerful ambient track “Oracle”. Then comes “Tembeling”, produced by one of the label manager 9beats, mixing sci-fi forest ambiance with a strong organic bassline. Third track “A.I.” is from the Lyon based DJ and composer Nicolas Rifo, fast rolling toms with a dark atmosphere will guide you on this one. The first part of the various shows that CWR is not intended to focus on one style but more on the emotion and ambiance of the tracks. 

Second part starts with the parisian based modularist dc11 and his track “Electron”. He took our attention these last months, dropping really strong and precise techno that clearly match the label. Then comes “Supo x1000” from Mersel that will easily find a place on your sets. Last artist highlight on this release is Benabou with her track “Torment”, mixing analog percussions with a strong lead.
