Following on from the success of ‘Zoi’, The Cobb returns to -102C for a new single. 2021 proved to be a breakout year for the Russian artist, as he continued to showcase a blend of organic and progressive house across his home labels of Deepwibe Underground and -102C. Organic tastemakers Armen Miran, Eli Nissan, Hermanez, Hraach, Mariano Mellino, Newman, Sabo and more have been recent supporters of his sound as he continues to rise in the genre’s flourishing landscape. Now returning to -102, The Cobb presents his latest studio offering ‘Perlina’, alongside a remix from Madraas.

Coming in as one of The Cobb’s deepest creations to date, ‘Perlina’ shows a slightly different side of the Russian artist. It’s smokey atmospheres and dubby overtones make it ideal for early or late play, and while it’s easy to get lost in the swirling textures, haunting choirs and chirpy electronics, The Cobb manages to keep a good dance floor sensibility throughout, not to mention some sensational musicality which drifts gently below the surface at key moments.

Famed for releases via All Day I Dream, Peace Symphonies, Tale & Tone and The Soundgarden, Italian duo Madraas make their Deepwibe Underground debut with a gorgeous take on ‘Perlina’. Taking that underlying musicality from the original the duo expands on that narrative with a more emotive rendition. Complete with great chord progression, beautiful strings and charming voices this is definitely one to create those memorable dance floor moments and with Armen Miran, Hermanez, Sasha and more already supporting you know it’s one not to miss. Highly recommended.

Dutch artist Alex O'Rion's new album 'Nostalgia' blends different music styles, combining grooves, organic elements, and progressive sounds for a soulful journey with a playful nod to earlier electronic music. This album marks a natural evolution in Alex's career. Over the past 18 months, he was in the studio on an almost daily basis. Moreover, he brought the album on the road, drawing inspiration from the sights and sounds of his travels. As a touring DJ, Alex has graced stages with headline sets across the globe, spanning from South America to Australia. The laidback warmth from these exotic destinations resonates within the immersive sound of this album. The album is drenched in atmospheric vibes, yet retains the dance floor-focused energy that is the trademark sound of his uplifting style. Working on the album allowed Alex to break away from his normal routines of producing bite-sized chunks of music that were released as singles or EPs, giving him the broad freedom to truly uncover the music that always resided within him. In Alex's own words: "The album 'Nostalgia' gets its name because it reflects a sentiment that has grown stronger as I've aged. Roger Martinez’s new Higher States imprint launches this week with three stunning tracks from the man himself. With a career now spanning well over a decade, the Dutch artist’s transcendent style has long been a favourite of the world’s top DJs, landing him releases on some of progressive music’s most esteemed imprints in Lost & Found, Replug and Sudbeat. Now starting a new journey, Roger presents the inaugural release on Higher States.

Having spent the first month of 2019 touring Australia the ethos of this collection draws on inspiration from Roger’s experiences there. Beginning with ‘Dreamtime’ we get a free flowing journey of redolent rhythms and effervescent electronics. It’s near ten minute running time is fluid throughout, showcasing delicate motifs and organic designs. Mystical yet emotive, these aesthetics are backed by a warm, pulsating groove, underpinning the track and translating it’s spiritual message to the dance floor. Meanwhile, the collection’s second selection ‘Songlines’ comes across a bit deeper with a more spacious groove sitting at the foundation. Smooth and dynamic, Roger’s attention to detail is once again at a premium, with evocative themes building subtly into a glowing main break that ultimately sits at emotional core of the EP. Rounding out the release is the quirkier ‘Billabong’ which once again showcases Roger’s nomadic style. Quite fresh and rhythmically buoyant, it’s also esoteric in mood and delivery, thus a fitting end to a spiritually uplifting collection from Roger. It rounds out what is a stunning debut for Higher States, with Roger crafting some of his most inspired productions to date here. Highly recommended.

Tinlicker feat. Run Rivers - Vanishing (Dosem Remix)

Four years after his standout Truesoul debut, Cristoph returns with a trio of peak-time weapons. 

Cristoph’s last contribution to Truesoul, ‘Genesis’ / ‘Exodus’, was a masterstroke of deft dancefloor dynamics, imbued with the right balance of polished low-end groove, licks of melody and pin-sharp drums that epitomised his high production standards. To many, both tracks stand as highlights in the imprint’s canon of releases. As such Adam Beyer remained in regular contact with the impressive UK artist, with a follow-up release in mind.

‘Consequence of Society Vol. X’ is his latest contribution and maintains the high bar set. ‘Sleepless Nights’ is driven by an emotive bassline melody and stirring orchestral break and is made for peak-time moments. A fact confirmed by Eric Prydz when he dropped it at Coachella last year during a rousing performance as Cirez D. ‘Starcourt’ is plucky and propulsive, its deep grooves injected with bags of energy thanks to a persistent synth riff that runs throughout. Like its 
predecessor, ‘Hawkins’ reinforces Cristoph’s love of Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ and navigates the EP home with uplifting arpeggios and crisp production techniques.

A showcase of fresh talent from the global electronic scene, Anjunadeep’s Explorations series returns for its fourteenth instalment, this time curated by Tony McGuinness.

Kicking off the compilation is Russian DJ and producer Maxxim with an array of percussion and oriental samples in ‘Lagoona’.

Next up, Above & Beyond's Tony McGuinness presents his new project Fingerprint, bringing two new remixes to the EP courtesy of Mem Aleph. ‘Rye & Eggs (Mem Alpeh Dark Mix)’ features a deep driving bassline, whilst Mem Aleph’s remix of ‘Babydoll White’ leads with a mesmeric vocal and ambient countermelodies.  

Hailing from Colombia, Kamilo Sanclemente & Giovanny Aparicio collaborate on closing track ‘Aware’. The duo re-affirm their strong chemistry as producers combining organic sounds with a fast drumbeat.

Following the release of his double-cut ‘Venus / Trondheim’, which saw support from the likes of Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, Dutch producer Nordfold returns to Anjunadeep with his four-track ‘Down Memory Lane EP’.
 
Opening the EP is title-track ‘Down Memory Lane’, leading with soft piano melodies and vocal stabs. ‘Rituals’ features breakbeat drums whilst ‘Andes’ is filled with intricate percussive rhythms. Closing the EP is ‘Pause Sunset’, showcasing Nordfold's characteristic sound design, which has previously been championed by Phil Taggart on BBC Radio 1.
