Episode 130 is finally here and we brought two fascinating French acid heads together for a transcendental journey into the world of transistorised bass: 

Maelstrom, like his name suggests, is a force of disruption. Striving to challenge the sonic and intellectual status quo of dance music, working as a benevolent, anarchic force to upset ineffective systems and sounds.
Co-founder of label RAAR (‘punk for techno-heads / techno for punks’) and prolific in his output on labels ranging from the legendary Clone (under mystery alias) to modern electro-standards such as Private Persons, Mechatronica, CPU and Cultivated Electronics, Maelstrom’s output is as ferocious as it is diverse.
2017 saw the release of the Nantes-based producer’s debut LP, Her Empty Eyes, a dystopic journey through an imaginary piece of historical fiction. Frequent collaborations with RAAR co-founder Louisahhh result in genre-bending chaos, ranging from wall-of-sound techno poems to Atari Teenage Riot-esque aggro-anthems. 2021 finds Maelstrom preparing his latest onslaught of sound; his full- length solo LP Rhizome came out on the 12th of March, it is an entirely fresh body of work about invisible creative communities, sonic evidence of the fact that nothing is created in a vacuum.

Fasme, no other way to describe this man than a live performance phenomenon! His scenic energy has marked the French stages visited in recent years, where his style is constantly evolving between electro, acid, braindance and synth-wave being defined by subtle and melancholic melodies, supported by the unstoppable rhythm of this trained drummer.
Leave no one indifferent; this mantra is what brought this joyful and endearing artist to the attention of the live Electronic Feeling collective, 
then of Astropolis, Paco Tyson & Dehors Brut / Concrete before joining the Sarcus Festival as a resident and more recently the Chevry Agency. His productions are also from another level with recent releases "Hexagonal Club" ( Pont-Neuf Record ) & "Stretched World" ( Nocta Numerica ), with more on the way including releases on Feel My Bicep, Dream Tickets, CPU & Acid Avengers.

These two have made a blend of unreleased tracks and collaborations at the intersection of their respective aesthetics. So let their sonic spectra take over your cerebration and as always…

Fresh heat incoming to Avenue Red from Ezy Fischel B2B N'djinn, a duo from Berlin whose selections are so rich, sweet, deep and fulfilling — not to mention the ridiculously silky, imperceptible transitions — it is at times difficult to take it in and process it in your mind. We are hereby served an eclectic platter of perfect summer solstice vibes. Finest vinyl-only ingredients of house, techno, electro, IDM — it's all there with a red candied cherry on top. Do not sleep on this 2.5 hour fireball of a set!!

"We set our aims on a b2b-mix what feels like ages ago, and in relative terms it is, because it was during winter '20/'21 that we reconnected (being former colleagues at a record shop) and started doing sessions. We always had a good sense of where the other one is, emotionally and musically, so it's been a wholesome journey exploring our collections in tandem.

There are numerous overlaps regarding which artists and labels we both admire, but surprisingly enough we own very few of the same singles and albums. Oftentimes when playing we discover lacunae in discographies we otherwise thought we knew, scrambling to note down an identifier, or, conversely, one of us simply starts nodding — a gesture every music head recognises — when realising exactly what record the other is bringing into the mix... ah, yes, many are the prized-but-not-necessarily-pricey tunes we've shared in ecstatic and all kinds of altered states!

Still, we've been sitting on many a recording without letting loose. Copenhagen-based record label Katharsis prepare to release the much-anticipated 'Modular' LP from local artist and composer Simon Littauer...The standout track from the album is ‘Xenon’ - a relentless barrage of feverish breaks slice through a dense haze of cyber-minded synth waves and throbbing bass to create this interplanetary treasure. As the piece builds to a frenzied crescendo, deconstructed drum patterns morph into a dance formula that is both puzzling and ethereal.

On this remix @Quizzik revisited his own synthwave creation focusing more on the tension caused by the Cold War during the 80s. So musically he transformed one of the original melodic lines into a thomping synth lead shifting through unstable drilling braindance beats, which should please IDM aficionados.

This synth pop song was inspired by the Otaku excitement and joy around mangas, animes and related japanese culture. It is a version of a darker track from Lost Tapes of 88's debut album, created by the own artist. The original version was named after where the graphic novel Akira takes place.
It is part of Lost Tapes of 88's new album called Remixed, set to release via 6 Plusten Records on October 18th. Keeping the 80s retro future inspiration, this album assembles a quite energetic combo blending joyful and dark tracks that range from a mix of synthwave and hard rock to darkwave, synthpop, electro, IDM, drum and bass, EBM and even phonk. It features fellow Brasília collaborators such as Kalimar Maia, Meduna, TT&G, ^L_ and also the own artist under the Quizzik and LTO88 monikers reconceiving his creations. So despite of the wide spectrum genre wise, this 8-tracker flows nicely with references shifting from likes of Eddie Van Halen to Boy Harsher, a-ha, Lowfish, Hudson Mohawke, Sub Focus, Skinny Puppy and drifter Hensonn, which sonically maintains the nostalgic revisiting focus of Lost Tapes of 88.

Artist Bio

Cris Quizzik is a Brazilian producer and DJ dedicated to experimental electronic music, electro and soundtrack composing, who started his electronic music journey in 2002 when selected for the Red Bull Music Academy, a celebrated platform that discovered artists such as Hudson Mohawke, Dorian Concept and Flying Lotus. Quizzik has also been part of the indie dance duo DeltaFoxx, which had recognition by media outputs like Les Inrockuptibles (FR) and Dancing Astronaut for its tracks and remixes released on Electronic Rumors (UK), Epidemic House Music (SWE), Brazilian Disco Club via THUMP/VICE and Crunchy Music (BR). Since 2021 he returned to his electro and IDM roots, releasing remixes for ^L_ and Meduna and four original tracks via Brazilian label 6 Plusten Records, which were supported by radio shows such as the Austrian FM4 La Boum De Luxe and Manchester´s Reform Radio Lift Music program, channels like HATELab, Tracklistings and respected IDM oriented media Igloo Magazine. In 2024 Cris unleashed his 3 year maturation synthwave moniker called Lost Tapes of 88.

Quizzik has been a DJ/producer since 2002, when he got selected for the Red Bull Music Academy for his IDM/electro works. Since then he's been very versatile in the music world, ranging from theater/film soundtrack composing to DJing, organizing parties, producing music on genres like synthwave, as his newly created alias @LostTapesof88, and also indie dance as half of the duo @deltafoxx — which played live in the US & Brazil and made a bit of a buzz between 2011 and 2018 on media outputs like Les Inrockuptibles (FR), Dancing Astronaut and Impose Magazine (NY) for its tracks and remixes released on imprints such as Electronic Rumors (UK), Epidemic House Music (SWE), Brazilian Disco Club via THUMP/VICE and Crunchy Music (BR).

Since 2021 he's returned to his electro/IDM roots with a remix for fellow Brazilian experimental producer ^L_ (@luis-fernando-78) through Berlin label @Antime_music, two releases (a single and an EP) via the avant-garde imprint @6-plusten-records, a special track for the RESIST compilation (organized by the Braindance Commune and the IDM Community) and a remix for @Meduna, which were supported by radio shows such as the celebrated Austrian FM4 La Boum De Luxe hosted by Sebastian Schlachter & Patrick Pulsinger, Manchester's Reform Radio Lift Music program by DJ Tukatz and Parisian radio Station Station's DLD by Denver's Little Brother and channels like XLR8R, HATELab, Les Yeux Orange, Tracklistings and respected IDM oriented media Igloo Magazine.

In 2024, he released two synthwave albums as @LostTapesof88.
