DEAD INSIDE

1st movement completed 20 Aug 2021. The somewhat subdued ending points toward the 2nd mvt, which incorporates a plaintive (and famous) Irish song from Donegal.

This second movement of 'String Quartet 2' includes 3 complete iterations of the tune from Donegal known as 'She Moved Through the Fair,' as well as variations and echoes of the tune in other passages.

1066 Ballade

Many years ago we invited an older gentleman I worked with to thanksgiving dinner.  After dinner asking about his family he said never married and all his family save himself were killed in a concentration camp.  To say the least I was shocked  and  shaken.  By the time he finished we all were crying and I was deeply moved.  Seeing a documentary just recently brought It all back.   Tried to put my feelings to music.  This spontaneous piece was made at that time.  I Cry still remembering that tattooed number on his arm.
