For the composition I set myself boundaries of just using trumpet sounds and processing to create the piece. All the sounds in the piece are created from a trumpet. 

The title is a very shortened version of the phrase “when you take a chance jump and think how you are going to land later.” So the composition is a musical representation of what happens after you push yourself and take a risk. The beginning confusion section represents trying to figure out what is going on, trying to find your feet and settle into this change. As the piece develops it represents using the basic elements you learnt when you took the ‘jump’ and developing them into something and try to become confident with all aspects of it, which is represented in the second section when the melodies from the start are messed about with using various effects. The piece then increases in tempo hugely and introduces new ideas. Representing becoming more confident with what is going on around you and pushing yourself further to get the most out of the opportunity. After that the composition becomes very chaotic very quickly and spreads into a long improvised solo with melodies from the start appearing throughout. Just showing that even when you become confident with something there can be difficult times but it then becomes a completely contrasting section to the rest of the piece representing a complete change in mind and showing that chances are good to take but they are just difficult to get through. The final section is very flowing and doesn’t repeat material to show progression and moving forward. Elements from the beginning are used to show that once you get to that stage it is easy to use the ‘basic’ elements without even thinking about it or noticing that you are, which is why they are quite hidden in the mix.

The risk that I took was changing my first study instrument to the trumpet, which is what ties all the elements of the composition together.

The Skydive

This was inspired when I was surfing and the waves were very calm and it just felt so relaxing. The idea of the piece is that you lose track of time and seems to be over before you know a bit like surfing. The middle section represents drifting out to sea and it becoming dangerous.

Life's a Beach

Most of the stuff I will putting on this will be experimental crazy electronic stuff. It isn't the kind of music you would have on your iPod more like scene setting music like film scoring. Hope you enjoy all the same :)
