"Hlapov", the latest full-length release by Italian musician Grotta Veterano, is a work of patiently arranged, layered beauty. Presented as four movements of a single suite, "Hlapov" offers a sense of great cohesive narrative, supported by its slow buildups and gravitating drones, blending in elements of choral music and expanding, organic rhythms. Ultimately it is music of quasi-sacred contemplation, a meditative journey of profound scale - a precious ornament.

Starting 2022 with a great artist, Aes Dana, one of the most aknowledged artist of the ambient scene and co-owner of @ultimae records

Vincent Villuis aka AES DANA is composer, sound designer, DJ and founder of @ultimae records label. An electronic activist for over 25 years, also a founding member of the Asura band.

Bass player and singer in several coldwave and industrial bands as a teenager, Vincent then moved on to composing with machines and specialised in audio sampling and layering of acoustic sounds digitally transmuted. Its music ensures a coherent fusion between Deep Ambient, Downtempo and IDM with a touch of Electronica Neo-Classical, Indus & Liquid Drum'n'Bass.

As AES Dana he has produced 7 albums, a collection of audio samples and about 50 tracks for various compilations, while collaborating with the Swedish artist Magnus Birgersson (aka Solar Fields) under the moniker H.U.V.A. NETWORK on 3 albums and with the Greek artist MIKTEK on 3 EP releases gathered later in the concept album « Far & Off ». They also worked together on the “Fragments 01 & 02” sample libraries. His solo-designed music library «Aethers» (co-published with Loopmasters) which was voted « best Cinematic Ambient sound bank » in 2015.

He composed scores and licensed existing works for short and feature films, documentaries and BBC tv programs such as « Atrophy Bank » by Sam Asaert, « The Passport » by Amund Lie, « Mandorla » by Roberto Miller or « Breath of Life » by Susan Kucera which opened new perspectives on composition and sound design and collaborations with various advertising agencies.

He is also the curator of the Fahrenheit Project compilations. As head of the Ultimae Studios, he earned a solid reputation for his Audio Mastering works & Sound Design.
He also is working on several projects in parallel: remixes, scorings & special projects.
His second collaborative album with Miktek is in progress and will be released in 2022.
A collaborative album with the Danish artist Lauge is also in progress.

DC Salas’s Higher Hopes returns for its sophomore chapter… ‘Male Tears’, a deliciously sleazy and wry take on the patriarchy from queer polymath, Kiosk Radio resident, visual artist, singer, producer and DJ Strapontin.
“I wanted it to be funny, sassy, with a drama touch,” he tells us. “The track ‘Angry’ is about a frustrated and lonely angry man. ‘Male Tears’ is a sleazy club hit mocking a straight white male friend of mine who is unable to question himself and his privileges. ‘Divorce’ is a joke on marriage and its rules and ‘Teaching Drama’ is, well, about drama queens…”
Drama, hard truths and witty observations: Strapontin’s agent provocateur status is galvanised by the oily basslines, off-grid drums and loose, swathing grooves that prowl out of the speakers and flip devilishly into moments of pure euphoria… And moments of total chaos.
Strap up, strap in… Strapontin is taking us higher. We couldn’t hope for more.

This week a beautiful vocal ambient podcast with Karen Vogt (@karenvogt) and her amazing voice.

Karen Vogt is an Australian artist who uses her voice to create atmospheric, ambient and experimental compositions. She is mostly known for her ethereal, shimmering vocals with dream-pop band Heligoland (@heligoland) who are produced by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins). Originally from Australia, she is now based in France. Across all Vogt’s work, the common thread is her ability to convey and evoke a complex array of emotions. At times raw and arresting, at others gently introspective, Vogt’s vocals possess an undeniable and distinctive emotional charge. She has recently started to release her solo work in the form of vocal and guitar improvisations and is building a growing body of work that fits somewhere between experimental and ambient. She is also half of the duo GALÁN/VOGT that released their debut album The Sweet Wait in November 2021 (featuring works from Akira Rabelais) with a forthcoming album of remixes coming this year.

Recorded in 1994 in Chimayo New Mexico at Organhouse in the foothills of the Sangre De Christo mountains 30 miles north of Santa Fe. Remastered from Analog to Digital in 2006 in Santa Fe, NM. 
Organhouse, evolved out of the Orange County avantgarde industrial band  Aktion Direkt and Organ 31 in 1982 from the underground scene at Non-Dasein in Fullerton, California.
