It’s 2,000 miles from Austin to Boston – a journey that covers a lot of ground and plenty of musical landscape.  It’s a journey covered in fine style by Cimarron Sounds artist, R.W. Hampton’s newest release, Austin to Boston.

Austin to Boston is the 12th album of new material by our award-winning cowboy artist and arguably his most eagerly anticipated.  Released in October of 2010 this album garnered R.W. plenty of praise and attention.

Building on his rising popularity overseas, Austin to Boston has already seen impressive radio play in the European market where, unlike pre-programmed American radio, Cowboy Music is played alongside the current Country Top 40.  The first track released as a single, “Cowboy’s Prayer”, debuted at #2 on the UK Hotdisc Top 40 chart and quickly rose to #1, where it enjoyed a 3 week reign, remaining in the chart’s top 10 for over 11 weeks and earning R.W. an invite to perform at the British Country Music Awards on October 10th.  The second single, “Driftin’ Again,” was released last week and debuted at #1 – rising above tunes from European favorites The Bellamy Brothers, and Toby Keith.  

Single, "Shortgrass" was awarded the prestigious "Wrangler" award in April of 2011 as the Western Heritage Association's Song of the Year.

The album was eventually named the #1 played album of the year for 2011 by "Hot Disc Charting" for the European market.

R.W. Hampton, a 30 year veteran of the Western Americana music world, brings us his first single in three years, “My Country’s Not for Sale”. The song provides a rousing call to action for patriots everywhere to honor the veterans who fought and died to preserve this great nation.  Written from the heart, it serves as a reminder that we cannot allow our leaders, regardless of their political persuasion, to remain complacent to the deterioration of our founder’s values, our constitution, and the code of honor that they swore to uphold. As we are faced each day with continuing divisiveness, this song gives a fresh look at coming together and re-visiting what our country was founded on and how hard the battles have been. 

“My Country’s Not for Sale”, was recorded in Los Angeles with the same producer/engineer team of Gary Bright and Joe Diblasi that created R.W.’s highly acclaimed album Austin to Boston. Once again capitalizing on the LA connections Hampton was able to record with some of the finest studio musicians available today, including noted drummer John F.  Robinson whose resume includes such artists as Madonna, Michael Jackson, David Lee Roth, Lionel Richie, Steve Winwood, Barbara Streisand, and John Fogerty among so many others that he is considered “the most recorded drummer in history”. Other players contributing on this track are steel player extraordinaire Jay Dee Maness and guitar virtuoso Cary Park.

The song has an alternate extended version featuring USMC Master Gunnery Sargent Franco with a percussive drill team sound and Hampton reading an excerpt from the Gettysburg Address.  Hampton offers both a commercial airplay version and the extended version in digital files or as a single CD with a bonus track.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of either track will be donated to Horses for Heroes, an organization whose purpose is to help wounded warriors.

Regardless of which version you choose, when listening to “My Country’s Not for Sale” the listener comes away with the power of Hampton’s fluid baritone carrying a message of devotion to the men and women who have fought for America and his sincere desire to bring her back to a place of respect and honor.

Before all of R.W.'s heroes left us, he teamed up with friends Don Edwards, Rich O'Brien, and The Sons of The San Joaquin to pay tribute to the original singing cowboys like Roy, Gene, Rex Allen, Frankie Laine, Marty Robbins and Tex Ritter. As R.W. said, "If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have had the adventures of boyhood that led me to where I am today." R.W. created Ridin' The Dreamland Range for young and old alike. Early in 1998 R.W. started making his first Gospel album, Then Sings My Soul. His timing proved to be uncanny. As the album neared completion in the spring, R. W. was involved in a serious auto accident and subsequently successfully battled a reoccurrence of cancer. Released in the fall of 1998, many have since said of Then Sings My Soul, "This album ministers to you. It has the power to touch your heart." A wonderful mix of old hymns and R.W.'s originals, and truly a work of love.

Troubadour is a collection of stories that tell the history of the founding of the West with the central character being the Cowboy. Troubadour features twenty songs performed in classic Western style, songs that tell of the early pioneers, the War Between the States, the trail herds, the Pony Soldiers, the Iron Horse, buffalo hunters and desperados, romance found and love lost. "The troubadours, who influenced the title of the album, were, by definition, knightly lyric poets and composers who wrote mainly about love and chivalry and composed ecstatic, lyrical love songs," says R.W.
