I tried plugging a cord into one of my school computers and recorded it when it started up... it sounded weird. I bet you could get better results tho. They have a lot of ambient noise and the one I used to record contaminated my data

Did you map intensity over time of wavelengths in the visible range to audio tones in the aural range?  If so, how did you sample the wavelengths of your sample - with a spectrophotometer?  Or just a photometer?  I'm a big fan of your data auralization series.  So cool!

For those who are wondering, I believe the large amount of plays this has gotten were mostly from reddit.com, but other sites such as youtube can account for some of them, as well as the tracks page on soundcloud.

This is the Windows 7 x64 edition of mspaint.exe. I used Adobe Audition to import and edit the audio, but one could just as easily use Audacity's "import Raw Data" feature. I imported this as 8-bit, 22050hz stereo audio. I faded in the beginning, as well as removing a long section of noise part of the way through. I also added a bit of phase distortion, as well as reverb and equalization.

Creedence- Bad Moon Rising (Live at Woodstock 1969)

I exported a black-and-white image of a sierpinski triangle from Photoshop as raw data. I then opened it in Adobe Audition and saved it as a WAV. The only changes I made were spacers added to the beginning and end, as well as resampling. I tried it with a bitmap, but bitmaps do not store data in a suitable form for this.

What you hear is the image, left-to-right, row by row from top to bottom. The black parts of the triangle create a momentary click, and those are heard more and more in similar patterns.

I actually ended up stretching the image horizontally to get a better sound, but that was my basis.
