Adepta Editions is pleased to announce the release of AEX-04 | Jon Murphy | Modular Overture, a 12" vinyl EP that explores the depths and textures of modular sound. For this fourth installment in the AEX series, artist Jon Murphy, formerly known as 'Gravy Murphy' or 'Yanni' of 'Cissi & Yanni', presents his work under his own name, marking a new chapter in his musical career.

Modular Overture is a meticulously crafted work built with a Eurorack system, where Murphy creates immersive atmospheres, delving into the experimental realm of raw, analogue synthesis, unafraid to explore abrasive sonic territories. The Westlicht Performer sequencer, along with modules from Noise Engineering and Acidlabs, are key elements in this EP's sonic palette, which is characterized by its dynamism and depth. The release includes four original compositions that invite introspection and movement, exploring diverse emotions and sonic landscapes. In addition, the EP features three remixes by prominent artists in the electronic scene: Serge Geyzel, Cignol, and ΠΕΡΑ ΣΤΑ ΟΡΗ, who bring their own perspectives and styles to Murphy's work, further enriching the sonic experience.

This EP is the last in a series of four releases from Adepta Editions that have featured the collaboration of talented visual artist Vesna Vrdoljak. Her graphic work for Modular Overture complements the sonic proposal with an evocative and contemporary aesthetic, creating a cohesive and captivating audiovisual experience.

Wander through sun-warmed hilltop villages and marble-quarried ruins of Tuscany. “Whispering Stones” blends non-lexical choral murmurs and breathy “aria” sighs with classical guitar harmonics, hammered dulcimer, mandolin tremolo and marble-chisel percussion. Distant church bells toll as olive-grove breezes carry harmonium pads across Etruscan arches.

I chose Tuscany for its living history etched in stone—where every cloister, piazza and quarry resonates with centuries of ritual and song. Let golden-hour light and ancient marble guide your meditation.
