Anjunabeats stalwart Damion ‘Damo’ Houchen, aka Genix, teams up with Northling on ‘Take Our Time’. The second single from Genix’s forthcoming debut album ‘199X’, out September 10 on Anjunabeats.

A love letter to rave culture, ‘199X’ is a departure from the sound Damo is best known for. Through the late 2000’s and 2010’s, Genix was well known for his textured, melodic take on trance. He caught the ear of Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, securing releases on both Armada and Vandit. Genix arrived on Anjunabeats in 2010 and immediately became a mainstay in Above & Beyond’s sets with tracks like ‘Aura’, ‘Destinations’ and ‘Black Water’ (the latter written with regular touring partner Sunny Lax).

‘Take Our Time’ is one of six collaborations on the album, and features nu-jazz / electronica collective Northling. Supported by BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing, Northling’s debut album ‘Ways of Seeing’ won ‘Best Album’ at the UK’s North West Music Awards. Damo and Northling have been in touch for years, and an emotive collaboration came to fruition: ‘Take Our Time’.

A polished DJ, Genix has performed around the world: festival stages at Creamfields (UK), Tomorrowland, EDC, ABGT250 and 350, to more intimate club affairs; Ministry Of Sound, The Hollywood Palladium, Warehouse Project. These shows don’t live up to the heights of playing 5,597 metres above sea level though, where in April 2019 Genix set the Guinness World Record for the highest DJ set on land with a party at Everest Base Camp.

Dutch producer Alex O’Rion is a rising star on Hernan Cattaneo’s SUDBEAT label. Originally producing trance, O’Rion has now found his groove within deeper, progressive sounds. He is regularly supported by the likes of Nick Warren, Guy J, Guy Mantzur, and more. 

Alex O’Rion’s extended remix of Matt Lange’s ‘Rift’ is the highest-selling track on last month’s ‘20 Years Of Anjunabeats: The Deep Mixes’ compilation, which sat in the #1 spot on the Beatport charts for over 2 weeks. Now, it is available on all music platforms. The groove-fuelled and melodic climax to James Grant’s ‘Anjunadeep: 03’ mix, Matt Lange’s ‘Rift’ (2011) is a showcase of the US producer’s unparalleled engineering skill.

Originally released in 2016 by Bien, gardenstate’s Marcus Schössow discovered the track while browsing Netflix. After contacting the Nashville-based indie pop band, their collaboration made its way to Anjunabeats in July 2021.

Included on gardenstate's 'Inspirations' album (released in October 2021), the heartfelt track has seen a new lease of life in recent months. 'The Best Part' has been streamed over five million times as of May 2022, with over 47,000 videos using the track on Instagram Reels, and support in Spotify's 'Chill Tracks' and 'Viral Dance' playlists.

'The Best Part' has also been remixed by Patrice Bäumel and Lost Prince, with Patrice's remix becoming a favourite of UK tastemakers Camelphat, and supported multiple times on BBC Radio 1 by Pete Tong.

Spencer Brown & Artem Stolyarov (aka Arty / ALPHA 9) unveil their new collaborative EP, ‘Ariel / Afterlife’.

Debuted during Spencer’s set at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 350 celebrations in Prague, this is the second time Spencer and Artem have joined forces, ‘No Going Back’ from 2018. ‘Ariel’ also featured on ‘Anjunabeats Volume 15’, mixed by Above & Beyond.

Spencer has, quietly, had one of his most prolific years to date: he released a full artist album in January, followed by two companion EPs, a collaboration with fellow San Franciscan Qrion and co-produced the title track of Ben Bohmer’s ‘Phases’ EP.  Spencer recently hosted a charity livestream in San Francisco that raised over $8000 for the family of SB-fan Greg Cohen and the Sarcoma Foundation.

Meanwhile, Arty’s ALPHA 9 project has gone from strength to strength in 2020. He’s released a string of singles on Anjunabeats across the summer and contributed no less than three tracks to Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats Volume 15 compilation album. 

We’re excited to say there is much, much more in the pipeline from ALPHA 9 to come this year.
