The Assignment: Fast forward an old track to make a new one.

I used VLC and BlackHole, it worked mostly fine. After a handful of tracks I took "On Spiritual Mission" https://krakenkraft.bandcamp.com/track/on-spiritual-mission and ffwded it. I cut out a loop and looped it warped in Live. For me it still sounded like the original. So I mixed parts of the original into. I liked that it now had some kind of fractal self-similarity. The title plays on the fact that you need some time to get into the groove of the loop and I think after the lenght of the track one could get into it.

This track was inspired by the Disquiet Junto Projet 0612: The listener should walk through a space and encounter percussionists playing the same instrument in their personal manner.
Since I don't own such an instrument, I used a small tin of the spice mixture "Sea Salt & Curry" and played rhythms with it in many various ways.
The listener is now invited to walk along the beach and listen to the different musicians.

Sea Salt & Curry (Disquiet0612)

The percussion instrument I am playing here is the Iranian Daf. It's originally a Kurdish ceremonial instrument and it is one of my favourite sounds in the whole world. It now gets used quite a lot in Persian classical and popular music too. It is an instrument that I was studying at a Persian music school in London before the pandemic but I broke my wrist in 2021 and that's one of the reasons I started to get into music production/composition for a while instead. I am only taking very irregular online lessons now from a friend in Iran, so this was the first time I had played in quite while. 

It took a long time to mix this because it has some pretty wild harmonics so this is just a very short blast. Thanks for listening.

Disquiet Junto Project 0612: Drum Vector
The Assignment: Walk the listener through variations on the same percussive instrument.

Step 1: Pick a single percussion instrument.

Step 2: Record between 4 and 12 different short examples (roughly 20 to 60 seconds each) of playing that instrument. Imagine that each recording is by a different musician exercising a different aspect of the instrument. Make no deliberate attempt to match key or tempo or sonic quality between them.

Step 3: Imagine moving through space over the course of time, and encountering the sounds — overlapping somewhat — as you proceed. Arrange the recordings over the course of a track so that at least one and at most five of the examples are audible at any one time. To further the spatial movement, each could fade in at the beginning and fade out. They might, as well, move from position to position within the stereo field.

Step 4: If you wish, consider adding a noise bed underneath the entire piece to sew all of the pieces together, to provide a sense of the space one is moving through.

Disquiet Junto Project 0617: Haunt Scape
The Assignment: Halloween is coming up. Do your thing.

In the haunting shadows of a disquiet Halloween, I craved a genuine fright, so I summoned an 8-track version of Bitwig with a cruel code from the sinister pages of "ComputerMusic" magazine (August 2023). Since that blood-curdling Superbooth 23 affair, the eerie Cthulhu call of this DAW has haunted my dreams, yet the terrifying thought of the time needed for mastering IT always kept me at bay. Now, having dared to dance with this phantom... it's eerily … but okay. Alas, this 8-track version, drained by nocturnal vampires, has had many of its limbs horrifically amputated. Thus, even armed with my trusty modular hatchet, it's hard to gauge if braving this ghostly realm is worth it. Be that as it may, a few nocturnal samples, mummified synths, and a disemboweled Lyra8 impro might not raise the dead from the graves, but together they gave me some creeps. (A little bit.)
