I like this compressed/gated swell in this vamp. The "lead" sounds advance the piece nicely.

The Devil is an Abstract Concept  (Disquiet0666)

This week marks the 666th consecutive week of Disquiet Junto. To mark the beastly weekly number, I reached back in time and came back with an early industrial number about the "satanic panic" of the 1980s.

Samples were cut from found-sound vintage news broadcasts and some from created from synthetic sources. The line about boys wearing makeup is a nod to my youthful pre-trans confusion. I tried to stay true-to-period with the drum machine and the arpeggiators, while keeping the synths evocative but ambiguous.

Put on your black t-shirt and your favorite headphones, and enjoy the imaginary 1988 demo version of “Satanic Panic”.

I recorded this late night Thursday October 3rd 2024 and during the morning of today, next day, Friday.
Tempo is 66 bpm
I used 6 instances of Kontakt with creepy sounds and orchestral bursts.
I recorded 6 tracks with toys and little percussions I had around the studio (sticks, crotales, a turtle shell, a "cuica")


I used a photo by Vitaliy Shevchenko for the cover image.

おまえは深淵の縁に立ち
地底に呼びかける
「ヤッホー」
その影がトンネルの壁に映り
影絵のようにうつくしい

I feel like that I had once come to this place.
A big foundry in the bottom of the abyss.
Men and women dirty with cokes pours the melted iron into the sand molds.
The sprues of the sand molds collapse.
The smell of phosphorus spreads.
The cupola furnace emits fire.
Sparks leap.
She stands at the edge of the abyss and looks down at the bottom.
She calls to the factory persons working in the bottom. "yoo-hoo!".
Her shadow falls on the wall of the tunnel.
It is beautiful like a shadow picture.
