"Kindir Surprise speaks of an identity distress, the distress that for many years prevented me from finding my place in my own person, the true Me. Then, i took a trip to Morocco in 2005, after 12 years without returning..."

"I was 28 years old, and about to rediscover a part of myself. The music, ever-present, spoke to me. The same music that used to leave me indifferent as a teenager in France, enamored with Hip Hop, funk, soul... and rejecting my parents' music, trying to create my own identity..."

"Walking through the aisles of the flea markets of Derb Ghallef, in Casablanca, I came across a box of about a hundred 60s-70s popular music 45 rpm records. When I asked for the price, the old man said, "Those are garbage, you won't do anything with them, take them for 0.5 dirhams each." I didn't hesitate."

"His voice still echoes in my head, as if he had thrown me a challenge... while offending our heritage. Joe Morris, Nick Smith and Iain Mac are Clandestino, a successful trio of party throwers based out of Leeds. They've been around the block a few times and have been involved in their local underground scene for almost two decades. This longstanding venture has garnered them some international attention and even resulted in quite a few international gigs as Clandestino. Their tastes are an amalgam of exotically influenced sounds from around the globe, easily heard on their extremely popular monthly show on KMAH Radio. As is often the case, they've also naturally developed into a record label, curating their own brand of idiosyncratic dance music.

Clandestino's fifth release comes from José Manuel, the Berlin-based Italian known for his percussion-heavy sound and tribal leanings. The "Human Behaviour" EP comes with two originals and two remixes, as well as a digital-only bonus track. The title track is a 9 minute journey that's slower in tempo with atmospheric keys and flutes playing over top of a jagged bassline. Clandestino remix Human Behaviour to turn it into a more uptempo, afro-leaning cut, injecting it with some tropical keys and a bit of an acid-y 303 bass.

Our premiere today is entitled Bangalore. Starting off with an immediate ear-catching, eastern guitar and bass combo, we know we're in for a ride. Trippy vocal chants come in as the drums and afro-latin percussion continue to work up to a full fledged groove. This percussive tune never loses its direction as different elements are introduced and taken out in the arrangement but the combination between the percussion, guitar and especially the quirky vocals turn it into a late night jam.

The final tracks on the EP are the Mushrooms Project remix of Bangalore, which turns it into more of a deep sundown, seaside extravaganza, and the digital bonus, Aisha, a tripped out cut full of djembes, Middle-Eastern and Indian instrumentation. Akuphone presents "Saz Û Dilan", the second solo album of Rizan Said. After "King of Keyboards", released in 2016 by Annihaya, this new release brings you the most exciting Kurdish-Syrian dance music to your ears. Surrounded by young local singers, Rizan offers his own interpretation of the modern dabke through eight original uptempo compositions full of energy.

Rizan Said is a composer, musician and producer, responsible for hundreds of Syrian recording industry productions as well as compositions and themes for television and cinema. Hailing from Ras Al Ain, in northeastern Syria, Rizan was a musical prodigy from a young age – a gifted player of percussion and reed instruments before a wealth of synthesizers began flooding Syria in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Steadfast on the Syrian cassette album circuit at the time, Rizan was already sending his signals out from the Jazeera frontier, thanks to a partnership with local Syrian producer Zuhir Maksi. Later, he was the man behind Omar Souleyman’s music and have recorded and toured accross the world with him. Nowadays, he performes as a solo artist and brings the original dabke dance sounds of Syria to European festivals and concerts.

Equal parts studio musician and disco academia, this Tel Aviv dj duo know their history and can see the future. Rabo & Snob weave a groove combining original and sampled elements to create their own club adventures tailored at disco edits powerhouse. Add that to full blown personal globetrotting careers spanning all other things music from journalism to producing and there should be nothing surprising about the very high quality of their collaborative work.
