Song written because of an observation I made of so many grandparents raising young children. Originally written for a friend to sing in the vein of John Mellencamp. He had done an excellent version of one of Mellencamp's songs.
I'll link to it as soon as I find it.
Sadley, my singer friend got sick and passed away. 
So, I was forced to do the vocal.

Been through all the ups and downs , but now we're looking down From Higher Ground . Hope you like this ! On the 1st of Feb' I'll be releasing a Country Rock song with a great Sax player , Greg Willis , you'll see him pop up quite a bit on future tracks . On the 8th me and Charlotte are back with a fab ballad , again with Greg ! Gaz and I have nearly finished our new one as well , there's a lot going on , I'd rather be busy than not ! There I was just standing, with my finger in my mouth

The thought of it now fills my heart and starts a manly tear
My sweetheart she encouraged me to 'live an honest life'
But I knew for sure that I'd gone wrong when they called me Jack the Knife

None of which appealed to me at all, if I'm being frank
A pirates life seemed full of fun, at least it did to me
