RAD Performance presents concerts in public space, on the road, and in motion, composing and playing while on the move. Pieces of music by different sound artists, the choral movement of the performers on the bicycle, and the dynamics and distance between the moving sound sources create unique soundscapes for the audience. The concerts take place along cycle routes in the city of Vienna and other regions of Austria. A mobile loudspeaker orchestra accompanies the visitors on wheels. The acoustic, urban space complements, overlays, and extends the electronic composition. The bicycle becomes an artistic medium at the crossroads of a concert, performance, and sound art. RAD Performance creates a new way of experiencing urban space by bike.

stadt.rauschen ein Hörspiel von Conny Zenk und eine immersive Konzertreihe im urbanen Raum. Radfahrende hinterfragen die Stadt als Klangsphäre, befragen ihre Machtwirkungen und Implikationen. Wer hat Zugang zu den akustischen Arenen des Alltags? Was bestimmt den Sound (d)einer Stadt?

Gischt, Verena Dürr, Matthias Hurtl und Conny Zenk entwickeln ein Klangerlebnis für ihre vegetativen, technoiden und velophilen Zeit- und Artgenossen*innen.

Klangliche Ausschnitte und Atmosphären der Stadt, vom Nordbahnviertel bis nach Floridsdorf, bilden die Basis für das Hörspiel stadt.rauschen. Elektrosmogwolken schweben klirrend über den fahrenden Drones urbaner Infrastruktur. Fragmente aus Stimmen und Poesie überlagern längst vergessene Territorien. Verzerrte Sounds, kreuzen unsere Wege, dehnen und verstärken sie. Klangspuren verbinden Gespräche mit Orten und Erinnerungsbildern.

In relation to their own Black*queer lived experience, they are primarily sharing the sonic emancipatory potentials of queer creatives of the African Diaspora. Genre is not as important to them as exploring and mapping links between spaces and sharing electronic and bass music from Africa, Euro-American landscapes and Black Latin America.

RAD Performance invites you to explore sound spheres in which perception, sound effects and compositional structures merge into a panoramic listening journey. As the sound rotates and circles around the audience, the bicycle becomes more than just a means of transportation — it transforms into a vehicle, an instrument, and an actress all at once.

মm. (read: mwo, just like the bangla alphabet) is a DJ, curator and community organizer based in Dhaka & Vienna. They curate playlists and mix DJ sets along historic and socio-cultural movements of sounds and music and, when possible, they try to evoke the listener's nostalgia. Their sets are percussion-driven, featuring genres, styles and rhythms from/of the global South with intentions to trace collaborative music histories across the larger region. Their sets are heavily inspired by diasporic movements, memories, and hybridities, and can feature genres ranging from popular bollywood and bangla music, batida, dancehall, baile funk and afrobeats to hip-hop, gqom, vogue cuts, kuduro, soca, jungle, hard percussions and techno, really depending on the mood and space. The style of music they play, they like to call it “south-on-south”, and they try to embed it in movements of club & dance influences from all over the world.

Fra is a DJ and visual artist based in Vienna. In his work, the praxis of collectivity/sharing is a core value. His sound can depend on his mood that day and the context of the party, but it can range from slow, melancholy, and sad to hyper, electric, and rough. His music and way of mixing are always about the people he makes music with. Music-making, for him, is rarely an act of complete solitude. Fra entered the music scene through queer and feminist spaces, mostly DIY – in his projects, he tries to incorporate DIY and free party. Every set varies in the genres. To name a few: Breakbeat, Deconstructed Club/Post-Club, DnB, Dubstep, UK Garage, Jersey, Footwork, Bass Music, DnB, Hardcore, Pop, various forms of Tek, Dance/Electronic. 

DJ Saratonin explores a variety of genres, including Ballroom, Baltimore, and Jersey Club Music, Ghetto Tech/House, a bit of Neoperreo and Deconstructed Club Music, and a lot of hits. Drawing inspiration and empowerment from Afro-American contexts, they value the communities behind these genres and believe dance and music are instrumental in community building.
