Had a lot of fun recording this one, lots of different flavours and a few unreleased bits of my own - big thanks to the boys for having me!

Interview:

For this week’s episode of the mixtape series, we’ve invited Tom Jarmey to take the reigns – Tom is a DJ, producer and co-founder of the Manchester-based party Wax Villainy. As always, we first caught up to hear about the mix & what he’s been up to lately…

I’ve recently polished off my geography degree in Manchester and I’m now spending the remainder of summer at home in the countryside – a much needed rest from the carnage that ensues the final post-exam month at uni. It’s also set to act as a bit of downtime to get stuck into the production grind once more. In terms of DJing, I’ve been playing at a handful of sit down events across the UK—while fun, I’m itching to get back into a proper club environment come the 19th of July! Let’s also hope festivals can go ahead (fingers crossed).

The mix was recorded at my family home in Wiltshire with the aid of 2 XDJ 700’s, a DJM 450 and a pretty view of the quaint English hamlet – keeping things simple. A few heads were turned from passing dog walkers during the final third of the mix, I suppose the residents don’t take too kindly to drumfunk. 

I spent a long time deciding whether to theme this mix around my more ambient tastes, or take things in the grittier club direction. In the end I settled on a bit of both—dedicating the first half to the more atmospheric end of the spectrum, with a bunch of unreleased ambient and drill tracks from both my aliases (Tom Jarmey and Ocean Stirs), and dedicating the second half to the sort of music I’d play in a club set.

On the production side of things, I’ve got a lot of exciting bits on the horizon. Firstly, my good mate Ed Hodge and I have our second record from Mother Of Pearls – our collaborative project – dropping on independent London label Gunfinger Food later in July. Following that, I’m releasing two more Ocean Stirs EPs on Holding Hands and X-Kalay—both adopting more of a jungle-orientated focus, with the latter being blessed by a remix from none other than Tim Reaper. I’ve also recently finished writing and mixing my second Tom Jarmey album which will be seeing the light of day next year.

More generally, I’ll be continuing to play out and relentlessly produce so keep your eyes peeled!

Introducing Gnork's new album: Inner Ride. It is something to listen to with your headphones on and your mind wandering. It's influenced by the cosmic and psychedelic sound of the 70's, from Pink Floyd to Herbie Hancock, with a twist of the synths of the Berlin school. 

The tracks were made in the span of 5 years from 2017, though they are not a collection of random jams. Inner ride is a conceptual, full-length musical work with 10 songs. A classic album that was designed to put on to your record player and to get lost in it.

Основна ідея альбому прослідковується в усіх треках — це відчуття синестезії, одночасного сприйняття і відтворення звуку, кольору й смаку. 

Реліз створювався в період блекауту в столиці, в той час, коли мільйони українців залишились наодинці з собою та своїми емоціями й отримали змогу відчути свою справжню сутність. В темряві зникають візуальні образи й загострюється сприйняття звуку, смакового та тактильного контакту — так може виникати синестезійний ефект.

“З перших тактів відчувається вхід у феномен синестезії” — розповідає МААТ. “Мета альбому — введення слухача в трансформацію сенсорного сприйняття від синтезу звуку, музичної форми, ламаної ритміки та 808-го басу до асоціації
з кольором, смаком і відчуттям тканини, що обволікає в різну форму”.

В EP представлені пʼять треків, які в послідовній динаміці вводять слухача у пʼять різних станів — Sequence, Velvet, Reflection, Wider та Synesthetic. Музичний потік комбінує електронне звучання в жанрах брейкбіт, електро та джангл з живими партіями саксофону та гітари. Neonicle - Kagome EP [Electro Music Coalition // EMC V017]

Juno's review : "We imagine "Neonicle" - judging by the affixes of the name alone - would likely mean something like "new instance of a half-biological, half-mechanical monstrosity, capable of lamellic self-regeneration when mortally wounded". Think of Terminator, grey goo or The Thing. Whatever idea the producer behind this alias had in mind when coming up with the name, you cannot deny that this nominal vagary still conjures up a certain set of (grisly, technological) images when paired with such solemn, fatal electro sounds. Machinic desecrations and vocal litanies abound on A-siders 'Kagome' featuring Julia Marks and 'Dirty Sanchez', both of which portray a tarred, oiled and feathered sound, as of an unstoppable automaton setting about a new reformative mission. Then 'Train' and 'New Culture' go on to utterly usurp and displace the old narrative, with the hip cyber electro of the latter - modifying the laryngeal emissions of vocalist Dyroplane - extending this robotic coup d'etat to lay down a new, sinister futural law."

Today I can't write music.
On February 24th, 2022, russian army invaded the territory of Ukraine. At 4 am regular troops of russian federation gad started fire our cities and villages, using multiple rockets launchers, ballistic and cruise missiles. Infantry and armoured vehicles trespassed the Ukrainian border. russian soldiers are killing civilians, they drop bombs and missiles on the residential houses, hospitals, schools, maternity hospitals.
In one moment vladimir putin and his kremlin gang of murderers and propagandists broke million lives of Ukrainians, including mine. I can't do my work of life anymore. Instead, I'm hiding in bomb shelters, volunteering in the meantime, and helping civilians and Ukrainian army. I'm shaking at every explosion I hear, and I don't if tomorrow day will come.
vladimir putin and his circle is making a genocide of Ukrainians hiding behind deceitful and cynic justifications. russian army shelling our cities with ballistic missiles, multiple rocket launchers, gunnery of various calibers, using thermobaric rockets and dropping cluster munitions that are prohibited by international law. right to the residential areas.

Please spread this information in media, among politicians of every level, wherever you can. PLEASE HELP us, otherwise it might be too late, and vladimir putin murderer will come to your home to take everything you care in your life most.

For years, I've been creating a lot of music which I couldn't finish and release trying to cope with psychological trauma. Now I understand that tomorrow I may not wake up, and I took a decision to upload my music as it is. It will be available in soundlcoud and bandcamp, all the money raised will go to Ukrainian army support.

Don't trust russian propaganda. russian government is lying, they aim crazy cravings to reignite the soviet empire and drown countless number of guiltless people in blood. Do not trust russian propaganda.
