Amanita Phalloides and Heavenchord are coming back to Radiant Sound with five tracks targeted at the deepest corners of your memories. It was recorded with vintage equipment, modular synthesizers, transferring separate elements to the cassette tape with its subsequent digitization.

«Tape Loops» has its light narrative. If you listened closely, you will notice a small amazing story in every composition.
 
«Iz Detstva» («From Childhood») reflects something light like a sunrise: it's perfectly suited for the minimalism idea and the concept of beauty in simplicity. The sound resonates with the track`s title. After all, when we were children, it took just a little to be happy.

«Kogda Ona Zasipaet» («When she falls asleep»), we go traveling through her magic dreams. The repeated musical theme and the peaceful tape crackle gradually put the listener in the dreamscape. The composition «Prosto Tak» («Just like that») is filled with the same mystery.

«Zimniy Tape Loop» («Winter Tape Loop») is like a childhood music box, which you receive as a gift for Christmas, and when you open it, you find many secrets. For example, a slight tape crackle, soft peaceful sounds similar to rolling waves, and even rare birdsong. This is a time loop that takes the listener to a world where everything is simple and calm.

The album closes with a composition with the expressive title «Vot i Vse» («That's all»). We are approaching the finale gradually: a melody is growing refreshed birdsong and the rustling of the tape. It's like going to the forest. At first, when you are entering it you hear nothing but birds singing. Gradually all forest`s sounds start to rise and take you into the natural world. The same «Vot i Vse» («That's all») works, making clear that you are imprisoned in the simple world forever.

The entire album is filled with warm vibes that create absolute relaxation and peace, but they are different for everyone. What story will the album tell you?

Electronic musician Forlate (https://soundcloud.com/forlate) has prepared the new podcast for RS. His music was influenced by ambient, minimalism, glitch and IDM. This has reflected in the seventh Радиант.

Forlate  focused on the study of sound texture choosing among the materials: sometimes viscous, then springing. It takes your attention away and just tells the story. 

 "A dreamy voyage along unknown shores, where the gaze, covered with a sleepy haze, no longer distinguishes water and bank," says the author about his work.

We asked DJ and electronic musician from Nizhny Novgorod Masha Molyanova also know as Salama (https://soundcloud.com/salamamusic) to prepare new Радиант. It turned out a diverse mix that harmoniously combines different kinds of electronic music – from techno and jungle to hip-hop, ambient and downtempo.

Masha's work was released on French label Badance and on Mexican Snu, mixes represented French division Rinse FM and NTS. Also she strongly supports local musical associations and parties in different regions of the country.

Inspired by Russian culture, Masha manufactures hand-made clothes with hand painting which reflected her love of forests and outskirts of cities.

Радиант #8 - Salama

Electronic musician from Moscow Acid Woe have prepared mix for RS which reflects influence of illbient 90s on musical underground and his own art (https://acidwoe.bandcamp.com/). Similar to his solo works the author explores non-obvious trajectories from painful, ruinous, spooky to healing and clarity.

Acid Woe knowingly refuses the canonical illbient compilation born in Brooklyn 90s because «genre» is clamped within confines which a few persons have shape it.

«The author of the term Gregor Asch (Dj Olive) said that there is always an element of ill, ruggedness and mangeledness in the illbient {"Ill in the hip hop lexicon of the time meant to take two things that normally shouldn’t go together, whether that’s tempo or tuning"}. So to put it as it is, illbient is already gone down in history and to speculate on it and try to reduce oneself to that genre now is pointless. But in my case, the vitality of the ill experience encourages me to still occasionally tag myself illbient», – tells Acid Woe.

The concept of his solo work reflects these same principles in both musical content and design, shaped by his life experience.

The Moscow techno artist Leo Vasilets aka QphoriQ (https://soundcloud.com/qphoriq), whose EP was recently released by Corpus Records from Berlin, took the 10th Радиант for RS in his hands. Despite the minimalistic dark sounding and rigid rhythms of his solo projects, Leo gathered together meditative dub techno and echoes of cosmic Detroit sound for his special RS mix.

The bandmates of the Moscow international band Zava Matotra have collected for RS a mix of exotic afrobeat, psychedelic jazz-funk and soul music, which inspires them to synthesize European and African culture in their creative work. The selection includes both classic hits of African pop music, and the works of Western musicians which have been formed under its influence.

We're glad to announce the new RS Podcast season started! This opens with a mix by Owen Pitch (https://soundcloud.com/owenpitch), a Saint-Petersburg's DJ, producer, sound designer and a scápes promotion group co-founder. Kirill originally comes from Bashkiria and makes music for ten years; half of them he has devoted to electronic and is known for several LPs released in Russia and around the globe, e.g. on Barcelona's Diffuse Reality label.

The selection reflects Kirill's provoked by pure curiosity love for various breakbeat music styles that has notably grown on him last years. «Once I stumbled upon a Shall Not Fade compilation while surfing Bandcamp and soon found myself raptured by this specific syncopated sound that barely exploits generic 4x4 beats. That has significantly changed my point on electronic music as I have explored a radically new dimension I've never paid attention before to.»

One of Owen's yet unreleased tracks is also in the mix.

The new large-scale «Радиант» for RS was recorded by Dub Raw (https://soundcloud.com/dubraw1) resident, organizer of parties with bass music in Anapa and DJ Andranik Kocharyan aka Skotcha (https://soundcloud.com/undermeth).

Inside it is a music that inspires the author today: ambient, leftfield dub and dancehall, variations of broken techno, breakbeat, and a handful of IDM and grime. Over the course of an hour and a half Skotcha juggles different genres and moods, keeping attention open and constantly surprising with unexpected points. At the heart of the narrative is his love of soundsystem culture, of which he himself is a part.

Sometimes Skotcha moves away from the role of a selector and get to create beats. His tracks can be found on Dub Raw label compilations and Estonian imprint Bass372 Records. Leonid's creativity is not fixed on one genre and varies from trippy hip-hop from «Entourage» to house and breakbeat from the albums  «Phenomenon» and «3». For RS, the musician has put together a portion of fast-paced jangle that knocks you off your feet with a massive wall of sound.

The next «Радиант» for RS was prepared by electronic musician Michail Makov, also known as mac passion, from Petrozavodsk, who is a co-founder of POLYUS 090. In the mix, the producer features emotional dance tracks that reflect his distinct taste in sound production and inspire creativity. Drawing inspiration from all aspects of life, the musician focuses on ambient music, emphasizing themes of nature and harmony in his creative endeavors. Recently, he launched a new label called TIXO (means  'silence' in Russian pronunciation) (https://soundcloud.com/tixorec) where his latest album «Space Down the Iris» was released. In addition to his musical projects, Kibosh offers training in music production, mixing, and mastering as part of his own educational course.

The latest "Радиант" in 2024 was recorded for RS by Juliana Ahulijing (https://soundcloud.com/ahulijing), a selector, multi-genre DJ, and co-founder of the "Welofi" label (https://soundcloud.com/welofi).

At the heart of the mix lie nostalgic tracks that bring back Juliana's memories of the 2010s, a period when she fell in love with drum-n-bass. "This mix is a tribute to a lighthearted and romantic youth, to drum parties on dancefloors of which unity and kindness always reigned, and to a time when DJs didn't hype with bare torsos but instead were able to express truth," - shared Ahulijing.

The selection touch on various drum-n-bass subgenres, venturing into jazzy hip-hop and downtempo territory. Structurally, the mix resembles the stages of an intense Saturday night party, with distinct intro, pinnacle, and the epilogue which you listen on Sunday morning taxi ride.

The new «Радиант»‎ for RS has been arranged by Kostya Kokokei (https://soundcloud.com/kokokei), electronic artist, producer, and co-founder of «Местность»‎ label (https://soundcloud.com/mestnost-records) — well known to our readers.

Compiled by the musician, the mix is released at the perfect time — just like spring, it represents a kaleidoscope of colors and vibes. Here, starry-eyed cosmic ambient meets energetic uplifting breaks, immersing the listener in pleasant dreampop melancholy and more.

As Kostya shares, he hadn’t prepared mixes for a long time, making his return to the process particularly interesting. «Some things I already had, others I found among recent releases. The entire compilation process was deeply enjoyable,»‎ he says. «In a way, the mix is a certain slice of things currently related to me by vibe and sound. I aimed to create a cozy, comforting atmosphere — a safe space to be in»‎.

Радиант #23 - Kokokei

The 24th "Радиант" for RS was recorded by Artem Timofeev — founder of the Картаскважин label (https://soundcloud.com/kartaskvazhin), collector, tape DJ, and promoter of cassette culture.

At the core of the mix is a selection of cassette releases from Russian labels, compiled by Artem toward the end of 2024. He supplemented the selection with works by Russian (or Russia-affiliated) artists released on international platforms. In result we have sort of snapshot of experimental music genres whose artists often favor releasing their work on tape.

According to the author, in conditions where streaming services dominate over other music listening means, cassettes offer a way to go beyond musical industry and discover an amazingly diverse slice of culture with a extensive spectrum of sound forms and aspects of visual decoration.

Радиант #24 - Скважин

«Радиант» under the beautiful number 25 was recorded for RS by Pavel Fedoseev — a musician from Perm, formerly the drummer of the shoegaze band Gnoomes, and now fully immersed in his solo work under the alias KIKOK (https://soundcloud.com/kikok_audio).

Debuting in 2018 on the Dutch label Magnetron Music, the artist has since released around 20 records, including seven albums of bright, danceable electronica. His most recent work is the full-length album «Slow Crunch» released on the «Mestnost» label (https://soundcloud.com/mestnost-records). Pavel describes his music as “shoegaze-Italo-disco,” though the influence of many other genres can also be heard. The producer’s wide-ranging musical interests are reflected in his mix for RS as well.

The main image that came to mind during the creation of this «Радиант» was a leisurely river sparkling in the rays of the summer sun. Over the course of an hour, we drift along a warm current of ambient textures, psychedelic guitar chords, and gently swaying dance rhythms. Much like KIKOK’s own work, the mix is filled with purely positive emotions — tranquility and a love of life — delivered in a slower, more contemplative rhythm.

Радиант #25 - KIKOK

The new «Радиант» for RS was recorded by electronic musician and journalist Nik Zavrie﻿v — one of the key figures of the first wave of IDM in Russia, best known for his project Ambidextrous (https://soundcloud.com/ambidextrous).

Debuting in 1998, the artist has released dozens of records on both Russian and international labels. Nearly 30 years later, he continues not only to create new material and perform live, but also to regularly organize parties as part of the Desktop Robotix series and, together with Ilya Rasskazov, the «Обсерватории Дежавю».

In addition, Nik is a passionate researcher of electronic music history, which has taken shape in his podcast and book «Планетроника», as well as in his teaching work. On his personal Telegram channel, he shares rare recordings, intriguing facts, and other valuable content.

For RS, Nik has put together a mix of energetic braindance and breakbeat, inspired by his performance at last year’s Mestnost label (https://soundcloud.com/mestnost-records) party at the «Мунк» bar.

St. Petersburg-based DJ and producer Stanislav Sevostyanikhin (https://soundcloud.com/kontext) is a true veteran of the Russian jungle and drum and bass scene. Having started his musical journey back in the 1990s, he continues to actively release music through his solo projects (Dissident, Kontext, and Vseslav) as well as collaborations.

In an extensive hour-and-a-half mix for RS, Stanislav explores the mutations of jungle—the foundational genre for him, whose evolution he has been following for 30 years.

RS is happy to announce Радиант, a mixing series of friendly DJs and producers. The maiden voyage starts with Moscow's Artem Markaryan aka ITSU (https://soundcloud.com/itsu-1) and all the recent tracks he's fond of — a compilation of minimalist and experimental sound flavoured by glitches, analogue noises and remarkable sound design widely represented in ITSU's production aswell.

The mix is dedicated to HAR 1 coming on Detroit Underground in several weeks. The LP contains some of ITSU's tracks: one that is enlisted in his next album coming in December on Barcelona's Teorema, the Diffuse Reality's sub-label, and a couple of tracks of his latest LPs — solo Autoscopy (Simphonic Silence Inside) and Requiem (Raw Russian) featuring trumpeter Vitaliy Filonov aka Mutafrukt.
