Inspired by the music from the French animated series from the 80s: Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea (French: Les Mondes Engloutis), 'Go Follow Spartakus' fuses the mysterious atmosphere of the original music with modern slap-bassy electronic dance music. The vocals, provided by the Swedish artist Scarlett, adds a dreamy and very distinctive atmosphere to the track.

DESSERT002 comes in the form of the Verano Yang EP by Argia.
Argia is a Spanish-born DJ and producer with a background steeped in music. Having studied piano and double bass at a conservatory, she naturally drifted towards the allure of electronic rhythms as time passed. Her sound blends together elements of melodic techno and nu-disco without being constrained by either; guided by a stripped-back and intuitive approach.
Verano Yang EP was written pre-pandemic in 2019 - Skynaut in the winter, and the title track in the summer. Verano Yang is an assured, striding piece of disco-leaning house, packed with tension for those misty early morning dancefloor moments. Skynaut is a spacey roller which swims in a sweet spot between melodic techno and deep house, with its silk-laden synths feeling dreamy, yet loaded with urgency.
Mala Ika, a French artist originally from Guadeloupe and co-founder of the label Sweet Musique who's known for her digging sensibilities. She turns Verano Yang into an Italo- inflected cruiser, lifting the synth melodies to centre-stage to killer effect. Dutch artist Rancido, an artist best known for releases on Innervisions and Omeni on a deep and afrobeat-led tip, serves up his 'Sunset Dub' of Skynaut. It's a floaty, percussive roller which is loaded with subtle grooves, melodic flourishes and wistful melancholia - a classy but deadly soundtrack to late nights, early mornings and those many moments in between.

It’s about stripping back the layers and acknowledging our true selves, honestly, without pretending to be something that we are not. It also addresses the usual Codewalkers topics of social inequality and the disconnect that individual’s find between their internal landscapes and the irritatingly pointless reality that confronts them outside of dreams. Basically drilling society.

On the 8th of July Codewalkers are back with a new single ‘Preternatural’. Coupling their unique, upbeat fusion of genres with vocalist Seun Babatola’s trademark probing lyrics, ‘Preternatural’ explores themes of choice and sacrifice, asking how far are we willing to go to get what we want and what are we willing to give up in return.

On the 16th of December Codewalkers are back with a new single ‘Santa is a Pimp’. Coupling their unique, upbeat fusion of genres with vocalist Seun Babatola’s trademark probing lyrics, ‘Santa is a Pimp’ is a fun alternative take on Christmas and where our presents come from. The track takes the perspective of a disgruntled elf who, fed up with poor working conditions, conspires with a disillusioned kid to blow up Santa’s workshop.

The track follows on from the success of their last release ‘Preternatural’, which as well as receiving airplay on BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio Wales was made Tom Robinson’s BBC6 Music Mixtape Pick of the Week. ‘Santa is a Pimp’ is accompanied by a live video performance of the track, filmed at Theatr Soar, Merthyr.

On the 9th of June Codewalkers are back with a new single. 'Nothing 4 Free' is about dysfunctional relationships, in this case a guy who is threatened by the partner of a female friend. He’s not interested in her, and he’s not interested in getting beaten up because of her. Based around a syncopated guitar hook and combining live drums and bass with electronic elements, the rapped verses explode into huge choruses, the band joined by the soulful vocals of Becky Winfield for the first time on record.
