For the fifth installment of our Original Alloys series, Montreal hip-hop duo @THeLYONZ sling back elemental samples and lay down soulful rhymes and melodies. 

@THeLYONZ are Anthony Salvo and Terrell McLeod Richardson, a producer and a rapper whose collaborative project looks at hip-hop through a uniquely thoughtful lens. Though the Montrealers' first release was in 2015, Salvo and Richardson have been bonding for years over a shared appreciation of art and a frustration with sameness in the current musical landscape. 

For their Original Alloys composition "Dry," @THeLYONZ stretched and collapsed the Bande des Quatres jewelry sounds into ambient textures and percussive snaps and breaks. The musicians also created transitional sounds by morphing multiple samples in tandem. The track features the soulful vocals of Eek, a folk singer also from Montreal. 

@THeLYONZ are in the early stages of a new project, and have recently released a video for their new song "Feel the Pain." You can stay in touch with @THeLYONZ and find out about their next performances.
