In celebration of the release of her new EP "wu…/HA!" on Shanghai label Eating Music, Cocoonics has put together a china.wav mix for us this month, featuring her own tracks and songs from artists who have been inspiring her lately.

Talking about her choice of songs, she tells us, "In this mix, I selected tracks from my upcoming EP and one of my past releases, "Plague." Because the vibe in the EP "wu…/HA!" is going from something organic to something industrial, this set has a similar idea. Besides that, I collected some tracks that I have referred to when making the EP, including some noise rappers like Moodie Black and Zebra Katz, also some punk influences from the newly formed Hong Kong band N.Y.P.D, my recent favourite band IDLES, Rubberbandits(who I discovered from my favourite film "Trainspotting"), and a talented metal duo Black Dresses. You can see where my inspiration comes from and have a peek at my music taste, which would be different from some of my dance music-focus DJ sets."

Chongqing-born DJ Postunk is currently based in Chengdu in Sichuan province. He began DJing in 2017 and has since started his own online radio show and founded his own club in the Western city.

Zean, one of the duo behind Shanghai club night and label, Gully Riddim, joins us this month for a mix. 

Zean and ALK (aka Kilo Vee) launched their first compilation album under the Gully Riddim name earlier this summer. They're now planning a few more EPs in the near future, aiming to spotlight the talent in UK bass, grime, drill and dubstep circles around China.

In this podcast we invite guests from different backgrounds, in various industries, each who have their own story, in hope to challenge some of our own perspectives by seeing things through a different angle.

Straight Fire Gang 直火帮 is a Hip Hop group based in Shanghai whose three members XZT, Feezy and Chuck ZIgga, attended university in the US and after graduating returned to China to pursue their love for music. This episode was recorded in the fall of 2021.

Born in Hong Kong and based in Shanghai, Tom Bray (better known as Tom Yeti) has been a pivotal figure within Asia’s music landscape for the past decade. Joining the dots within all aspects of the industry from artist management, music event promotions, booking agent, radio host to DJ, he’s the co-founder of YETI OUT collective and subsidiary record label Silk Road Sounds. Holding residencies in Shanghai, Seoul, Bangkok to Singapore, YETI OUT’s been bridging the gap between East & West

Being the few Asian music collectives that hold residencies on Rinse F.M to NTS Radio, their ‘Silk Road Sounds’ show promotes a sonic exchange between cultures from both sides of the Atlantic with consistent label releases that blur the line around Grime, Garage, House, 4×4 frequencies to new found global sounds. His sound design portfolio covers curation projects alongside the likes of Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bottega Venetta, Soho House to NikeLab while cementing his career as a multidisciplinary in Asia’s creative circles.

Thomas started a music blog that mushroomed into an all-out creative collective, Yeti Out, involved in party promotion, art show production and fashion collaborations, and with its own record label Silk Road Sounds and creative agency TEN5.

He mixes a variety of genres, including UK Bass, Grime, Club Trax, Techno, and Footwork and has played Boiler Room, Radar Radio, NTS Radio, SHCR, and others. In 2017, he founded the S!LK label -- an electronic art, fashion and music brand -- and has invited international acts like P Money, Killa P,Sinjin Hawke & Zora Jones, Slackk, Drippin, Air Max' 97, Abyss X, Trekkie Trax, NAAFI, Bulma and more to tour China.
