Matt’s influences have always been varied, and his music’s rich diversity is in full effect across the LP as he adeptly shifts between tempos and moods, utilising his ear for melody and rhythm to create an absorbing collection of timeless sounds. The ground shaking sub-frequencies central to each track are built to challenge soundsystems and ignite dancefloors, whether it’s on the livewire rhythms of his jungle indebted track ‘Wicked Dub’, the driving sonic force of the drum and bass styled ‘Different Dub’ or the dubbed out, skank-ready movements of tracks like ‘Earthwalker’ and ‘Indra’. As well as the all-powerful bass pressure, Radikal Guru works with a colourful array of instrumentation, and brings in characterful vocalists YT, Danman and Echo Ranks to provide melodic lead and reggae lyricism on ‘Stay Calm’, ‘Know Yourself’ and ‘Warning!’ respectively. This project started a good while ago with a fresh riddim which Mystical Powa had composed for the Idren Natural vocal ‘What A Strength’ aka ‘Hold A Gathering’. A beautiful piece of word sound and message. This new version sparked the idea to make a release out of it, including new recordings by Benjammin with ‘Come Together And Reason’ and PiyaZawa on ‘Flute Reasoning’, both specifically done for the occasion. All multitracks were then given to Petah Sunday to go through his mixing and dubbing treatment in the I-tal Soup Studio. Approved in session, those three tunes are now ready on 12inch vinyl for sound systems near and far! Including several dub cuts! Let those words and those melodies resonate with ones and ones around you!

Shaman Protection [Part.2] DubPlate

Here comes a project, as so often, very dear to my heart. It’s the outcome of the hunt, find and follow up journey of an obscure dubplate. A heartical salute to the late 80s / early 90s era in the UK - Brixton to be precise. When Brixton Promotion and Passion Enterprises, under the wings of Howard Hill, were responsible for a number of scorchers with the likes of Michael Prophet, Ricky Tuff and others. The ominous Vanguard had managed to craft his own hard hitting sound with his drum machines, minimalistic and raw, but still full of feeling, that would carry the singers perfectly. One particularly tuff tune from that time has remained a hard to find dubplate though, and it has been haunting me for years.
From first hearing it in Nick Manasseh’s selection - as it is in his precious collection since the 90s - to re- and relistening session and radio recording snippets to find and enjoy it again. From countless conversations and emails I had with Nick and others about the tune, to running thru Brixton record shops, asking around and trying to locate Howard Hill. From Nick one summer at a festival suddenly suggesting to redo the riddim, as the original master recordings of the original dubplate might most likely not exist anymore, to now presenting two beautiful new recordings on a very very special recut out of his studio… it has been a wonderful ride !

Nick is around in the reggae and sound system scene in London since the 80s, plus the most humble person, as well as a top producer, musician, engineer, selector, sound man, radio presenter and just in general super talented in everything he does. Also he was the one who made me discover the dubplate in the first place. When he suggested to take the project down to his The Yard Studio, and record some fresh vocals, I could not believe my luck. A many months and a steady exchange followed and lead to a number of versions.
It’s with great to joy to now present to you a heartfelt ’Need More Love’ by Ziggy Anderson and a great deejay piece entitled ‘People’s Choice’ by Afrikan Simba on a beautifully recrafted riddim plus deep dubs à la Manasseh, all transferred to tape and mastered with care by Star Delta Mastering.

Just grateful how much strength this piece of music has been giving me whenever I press play. Hopeful that it will do the same to others.

This is the time, so let Jah Light shine bright… in special dedication to Michael Prophet and all the fallen angels !

One of the brightest lights of the roots-influenced underground community for the past half-decade, Poland born Mateusz Miller has pioneered a compelling and unique fusion of sounds that encompass dub, reggae and dubstep under his Radikal Guru moniker. Inspired by an appreciation of soundsystem culture, his music has become synonymous with suffocating degrees of dread bassweight, vibrant and eclectic palettes of tone, and varying energy levels that cater for both dancefloor focussed ruckus and for more meditative listening. Heavily influenced by the likes of King Tubby and Scientist, Matt first gained worldwide acclaim and recognition through a string of killer vinyl releases on leading reggae/dubstep imprint Dubbed Out, before forming a creative partnership with fellow label Moonshine Recordings where he has gone on to cement his reputation as one of the strongest proponents of the scene. His Moonshine discography boasts highlights that include his debut LP ‘The Rootstepa’ and the mighty ‘Dread Commandments’ 12”, and keep an eye out for some seriously exciting developments in the pipeline including the release of his second album. Not only a talented producer, Matt is also a fine selector, conveying his passion for music through DJ sets that pay homage to the sound and culture’s rich history as much as they showcase the freshest cuts of sonic innovation from himself and his contemporaries. He has hit spots all around the world to assault soundsystems with bass-fuelled beats and positive vibes. Catch Matt bringing heat to a series of festivals this summer, and with a landmark tour yet to be announced, there is plenty to look forward to on the horizon.
