Today, we are celebrating the impending release of our fourth/fifth reissues - the archival compilation 'Tsonga Tremors: Explorations in Tradition, Technology & South African Dance Music (1983-1991)' and its companion release 'Tsonga Tremors: Remixes.'

We are presenting this reissue compilation featuring early Shangaan-influenced dance music from legendary producers Paul Ndlovu, Thomas Chauke and Richard Siluma alongside lesser-known Tsonga Disco and neo-traditional rarities from South Africa (1983-1991). The compilation will drop digitally on July 2nd - and physically on Sep 1st. 

This first series of remixes from the 'Tsonga Tremors' compilation is spearheaded by three acclaimed producers - @hysteric, @monsieurbaba and @djturboboomboom and will be released digitally on June 4th. 

The 2LP compilation is available to pre-order on vinyl via @lightintheatticrecords and digital editions via the chOOn!! Bandcamp (www.tsongatremors.bandcamp.com). 

To mark the occasion, we are so very excited to welcome our fifteenth guest mix selection - this time from Eric Advo Liphadzi aka Eric the King Lipaz - a pioneering producer, director, audiovisual polymath and impresario based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Eric’s not called the "King" for nothing, he is part of South African music royalty and his guest mix takes us on a wide-ranging survey through his varied career. The rapid dispersal of his productions for Mahoshi, Jekete and Mezaya Kids through global dance channels in the early 1990s introduced audiences to a unique talent and one of South Africa’s brightest stars. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has become one of the undisputed godfathers of the Afrosynth sound, a number one artist many times over, and now promoter and A&R for new talent.

His guest mix is a completely unique 2 hours of radio - recorded LIVE from his Johannesburg studio at LiveNetRadio, Eric is in the ideal spot to expand on how his music transitioned from the no-prisoners minimalist dancehall blitz that marked his international emergence to remixing huge pop stars like Madonna and Bryan Adams.

Expect a dystopian sound collage where primitive dub damage meets euphoric post-Kosmische hypnotic beauty. Fully embracing both analogue and digital sources and samples, worlds meld together through plunderphonics and musique concrète. Primal rhythms cut through with beams of massively potent cyber/synth destruction, brain-bombing automated steel-tone pulses and a heavy smear of sub-tropical ambience. A love letter to maximal minimalism.

Next up on the series is a name we’ve been following for sometime and we feel incredibly honoured to have them on, the NY based producer jung dj⭐️. Their beautiful self releases leave you finding yourself always curious towards their methods of production. 

In this mix jung dj spoils us with a lovely hand picked selection giving us a stunning lullaby of sounds. The warm, shimmering melodies throughout give us a personal sense of what they represent.  

“Ideally this mix could serve as a playful challenge to the idea of “serious” experimental music. As if to convey a rejection of the purely cerebral approach (or work that is at the expense of the visceral). For me, music is at its best when the two go hand-in-hand-- though I’m ultimately most interested in what feels good on a cellular level. So, let's just say this mix serves as a gentle reminder for me to trust my instincts. And maybe it'll do the same for others... you never know.”
