The recording from one of my favourite sets last year ~ Transcendence Festival in Japan 🌲🇯🇵

I’ve long been drawn to the deep, organic and electrifying techno of Japan–inextricably linked to open-air gatherings deep in the forest–so it was very special to play this set in the mystical woods of Nagano’s mountains.

I played after Japanese wizard OCCA @oooccaaa, from 11.30PM-2AM ~ descending into the night and far beyond ✧.*｡⋆

Deepest thanks to @takumiinamoto1994 and @djmaria-jp for the invitation to join this gathering of likeminded musical souls, I am very grateful to have shared this experience with friends old + new 🫶

Headsy, minimal, techy, and rolling; sonic signatures for which Bjarke Høver is becoming well known. For this edition of Buttheads the local don steps forth for an hour of teeth-gritting and foot-stepping progressive trance which carries a particular growling momentum for the penultimate set of the evening. Tipped for fans of that specific interpretation of minimal-tech-trance from the likes of Bitmonx, Timetech, and Atmos.

Hugo debuts a new alias for a masterclass in deep + brain warping techy minimal, keeping the ride low for the whole hour whilst maintaining a hypnotic kind of momentum. Haunted minimal wiggers replete with crunched out percussion and flickering high end echoes from the likes of Gurtz, Oni Ayhun, and Niukid. A proper diggers selection of teeth-baring gritty house so stripped back it makes you question what the genre really means. Stake is the name, waft is the method. Massive tip.

Born and raised on the island of Mauritius, @djsportt is now based in Barcelona. With a love for polyrhythmic, bouncy, mind-bending sounds, she brings up disorienting rhythms playing between tension and release, keeping listeners engaged in ever-shifting sonic landscapes.
She crafts a distinctive sound within the deeper, bass-driven and psychedelic realms of club music. Her DJ sets are driven by an adventurous, storytelling approach, focussing on channelling into the depths of textures and intricate rhythms.
 
For this mix, she explores a slightly different selection than usual, focussing on deep and dubby techno evolving into breaks and bass, maintaining a kind of warm-up energy all the way.

LOIF in for a fast pace, tekky wiggly wobbly mix ahead of the release of his debut album Ghostworld. A real pleasure to have him in the studio, one of my favourite local artists who's sound has been one to define the Australian underground in recent years. Drawing on D&B & psy influences yet uniquely and distinctly LOIF.

Good b2bs are often a sum of their parts. Two artists bind and form anew. If that was ever true of a pair it's true of these two. DJ Sea View & Matriark join forces to round off the evening in serious style. Like running a dark beach at low tide, its washy, deep, and driven. Tracks from artists like Stenny, Shoal, and Archypness comprise two hours of subtly experimental techno, the kind that flirts with psychedelia with a light touch. Big tip, obviously.
