Ghettotech (also known as Detroit club music or Chicago club music) is a genre of electronic music originating from Detroit and Chicago. It combines elements of Chicago's ghetto house with electro, techno and UK garage. It features four-on-the-floor rhythms and is usually faster than most other dance music genres, at roughly 145 to 170 bpm, and sometimes features pornographic lyrics. As DJ Godfather puts it, "the beats are really gritty, really raw, nothing polished."[1]

Ghettotech was born as a DJing style, inspired by the eclecticism of The Electrifying Mojo and the fast-paced mixing and turntablism of The Wizard, with DJs mixing genres including jungle, ghetto house, hip hop, R&B, electro and Detroit techno. The general BPM of the music's mixing style increases over time.

A Detroit ghettotech style of dancing is called the jit. Detroit jit is an improvisational dance that mainly centers on the fast movement of the feet. Chicago's equivalent dance style is Juke, where the focus is on the footwork dating back to the late 1980s.[2]

Ghettotech is an integral part of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, an annual event.

After his first appearance on the labels second release with the widely appreciated remix of „Stateunknwn”, Arkajo (Genius of Time / Aniara Recordings) returns with the highly effective five minute break workout „Vamp”. A track initially presented as part of Arkajo’s live set now finally sees the light of day as part of this vinyl.

On the B-side BROR proudly holds the debut of DJ Lily. With a planned EP on BROR04 in October, DJ Lily presents the atmospheric techno trip „Folia” that stylistically paves the way for the next release.

In this third chapter of the BROT series, we wrap up the trilogy from the Reykjavík based producer Felix https://soundcloud.com/felixleifur, who has genuinely showcased his incredible set of production skills throughout the year.

These last five BROT tracks move the sound to another spectrum where Felix plays around with his traditional sound. But this time the tempo is high, and the strong influences from old school breakbeat and jungle shine through. Felix's BROT 03 ties up the first BROT series with flair and this one will surely not be the last one.

Stay tuned for more BROT action in 2020.
