“A Different Form” - 12-1pm (UK) 

Coming out of my cave to celebrate St. David’s Day with NTS, sharing some Welsh music I’ve long kept close to my chest. This mix spans everything inbetween, including rare tape recordings that seem to be radio sessions from bands I wish I knew more about. Expect what might be an untitled collaboration between Gorwel Owen and Sgidia Newydd”, alongside music  from untapped South Wales labels like Moira and the Mice and Dennis Remme.

Whether sourced from shoeboxes filled with homemade cassettes, overlooked bands that slipped through the cracks of the “sîn”, or labels that defied convention, this mix is a tribute to the groups who deserved so much more. Labels like R-Bennig, who pushed the Welsh language into new territories, visionaries like Geraint Jarman, who championed countless artists, and heroes like Don Leisure, whose Tyrchu Sain release has breathed new life into music lost to time.

It’s been nearly six years since I started digging deeper into the music of Wales—a journey that became a revival of sorts, helping me reconnect with the land, the people, and most importantly, the language. I’m incredibly grateful to NTS for giving me the space to share these discoveries for an hour.

Back by popular demand: Tako's wonderful Holiday Mix!
Here's what I wrote 7 years ago:

I was about to post this beautiful summer mix of Tako with the following words:

"What do you expect from a mix when it's done by a supernice guy with an excellent taste in music and a wonderful record collection? Yeah and that's exactly what you get here. Also make sure to get a copy of the first 12" of the Sombrero Galaxy, released on Lovefingers long awaited ESP Institute. Sombrero Galaxy is the collabo between Tako and Jonny Nash and their "Journey to the center of the sun" is one of my favourite releases of the last years, cheers!"

That was yesterday. In the meantime something terrible happened. Tako's friend Petros Malevis from Athens passed away without a warning. This mix is dedicated to Petros! He will be missed. Rest in peace, Petros.

Radio 80000 is a non-commercial online radio from Munich and was founded in April 2015.
