Juan J. Morales is the son of an Ecuadorian mother and Puerto Rican father and grew up in Colorado. He is the author of four poetry collections, including The Handyman’s Guide to End Times and Dream of the Bird Tattoo, which is forthcoming from University of New Mexico Press in 2025. Recent poems have appeared in Crazyhorse, The Laurel Review, Breakbeats Vol. 4 LatiNEXT, Acentos Review, terrain.org, South Dakota Review, Sugar House Review, and Poetry. Morales has received fellowships from CantoMundo, Macondo, Longleaf Writers Conference, and he has served as the editor/publisher of Pilgrimage Press. He lives in Pueblo, Colorado and is now an Assistant Professor of English at Colorado College.

GARRETT HONGO was born in Volcano, Hawaiʻi, and grew up on the North Shore of Oʻahu and in Los Angeles. His most recent books are The Perfect Sound: A Memoir in Stereo, The Mirror Diary: Selected Essays, and Coral Road: Poems. He has been the recipient of several awards, including fellowships from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation. Hongo lives in Eugene, Oregon, and teaches at the University of Oregon, where he is Distinguished Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The guest: Tom Baker is an Army brat. His father was an old Brown boot Seargeant Major who fought under Patton in World War II.
Tom is a combat veteran from the war in Vietnam. After being with the 1/9th for about a month and a half, the 1/9th moved south to III corps at Phuoc Vinh. Tom's chopper was shot down twice during that period. 
When Tom got out of the Army in May of 1970, he returned to North Carolina and went to Forestry School. He worked as a forester and logger for over forty years. Tom is the co-founder and President of the Jackson County Veterans Organization, and is an active member of the Writing for Healing Veterans group Brothers and Sisters Like These. He has published one historical fiction novel (The Hawk and The Dove) and a memoir (Warrior Wannabe A Memoir).  And like many veterans, he tries to help veterans.

Tyler Meier works as the University of Arizona Poetry Center's Executive Director.  An alum of the UA's Academic Leadership Institute, he was recognized in 2019 by the University of Arizona with an Award for Excellence and in 2024 with the Friend of the Humanities Award from Arizona Humanities.  
He is an affiliated faculty member with the Department of English, and serves on the advisory boards of the W.A. Franke Honors College and the Humanities Seminars Program.  
Prior to coming to the Poetry Center, he served as managing editor at the Kenyon Review and co-director of the Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop. 
His poetry and nonfiction have appeared in the Arizona Republic, Boston Review, Bat City Review, Indiana Review, jubilat, Poetry, Washington Square, Forklift, Ohio, Tupelo Quarterly and the anthology Truth to Power: Writers Respond to the Rhetoric of Hate.  With Naomi Shihab Nye and David Hassler, he is co-editor of Dear Vaccine: Global Voices Speak to the Pandemic.
