1 Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection

My name is Eve alias Selecta Kwaby. To keep it short… when I play strictly Jamaican flavoured music it’s Selecta Kwaby’s turn. ;) When I play it in a global way without fixed on style and musical boarders it’s Eve’s turn! ;) I live in the South of Germany in a wonderful city with the Name Tübingen.  I started to collect records around 2005. In this time it was not much known about the late obscure 70s and early 80s of Jamaican and UK Reggae productions. The only chance was to get them on vinyl. Therefore, it all began. I’m deeply connected with Jamaican Music.  However, there was and is also much love for many different styles. Eve likes it funky, fuzzy, groovey, raw and sometimes folky but global. Selecta Kwaby loves it with bass. My goal is always to dig deep into it. I would not call me a DJ but a collector… and I love to take my records out.  

2 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7”. Can you tell us a bit about what you love about this format?

Hehe, this is a good question. Nowadays you can find a lot of tunes on compilations that were only released on 7 inches back in the days, but for me it’s not about to have the song, but it’s about to have it on 7 inch. Why? Because the 7 inch is the real deal for me! It’s about the one song on it! Okay, if you have luck, you have a double sider. Moreover, well, sometimes you have an EP that runs on 45. You drop the needle and you listen to the track you want to listen to. That’s what it’s all about. And don’t forget: The picture sleeves the label sleeves, hehehe. Another 45 nerd told me it’s an erotic thing about the 7 inches and well, yeah that fits. 

3 Four hours of vinyl goodness…can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

For me a guest mix is always an opportunity to sort out some tunes for something special. This mix deals not with funky stuff. This one is about to be psychedelic and raw. Some tunes are downtempo, some are uptempo! And hell yeah, some are really weird and freaky. I sorted out tunes form 16 countries. Mostly 60s to 70s, but also some contemporary tunes. Some play clean and some are dusty. It starts in Russia and ends in Peru. Every continent is represented. 

4 Where can people catch you/ listen to your music?

Im a member of a Reggae Sound (Roots Typhoon) and a member of Global Taste Project. You can find mixes on Mixcloud.  I played at many places in Tübingen and Stuttgart. And sometimes I was invited to play in other cities in Germany. In Tübingen we have “Drehscheibe Tübingen”, a very familiar thing,  where we come together as collectors, DJ’s, and we spin records together.

Bside Incoming: Dan Tenor-City

He’s the DJ/producer behind Deep Tenor City and an avid collector of boogie, fusion, funk, house and roots reggae for over 20 years. Normally he’s found dropping genre-busting vibes on dance floors and DJ bars all over: on his long-standing Deep Tenor City show on Soho Radio, as a playlister, and promoter of his producer/musician friends.

He’s released 3 EPs including Oba and Fireheart on BBE, and 3 7” reworks on GAMM as PPA that feature in his Bside Podcast. Stand by for the next release from Deep Tenor City People. By day you’ll find him teaching at uni in London.
