As Bright Patterns completes its fourth trip around the sun, we welcome Imaginary Softwoods as the special guest for November. It’s been a dream of mine to have John Elliott on the show. He’s been a part of so many incredible projects: Mist, Outer Space, Organic Dial, Emeralds—not to mention all of the eternally awesome records that were released via his expert curation on Spectrum Spools. It’s a treasure trove. All that said, the vast output of John’s solo project, Imaginary Softwoods, sits firmly atop this immense pile of sonic wonder. So many of these cuts have been played on Bright Patterns over the last four years. It is a vibe I carry with me, one that’s deeply embedded in my relationship to music. The last time I heard a mix from John was 2017 and I still talk about how good it is. With all of the gratitude to everyone who listens, I hope you’ll enjoy this mix of what he’s been listening to lately. Designed as a bit of a balm for a world in pain, it covers contemporary selections with a few new age classics, reflecting the daily eclecticism of his auditory diet. It also ushers in a new era for Bright Patterns, where it will run from 9am to 10am ET with the same Thursday cadence as it has been, each month, since the beginning.

Early on the day but on the edge of heat-stroke with all of you, covering with cardboards and whatever we found the machines, also on the edge of exploding, on a day that would expand and evolve followed by a crazy line-up into that magic forest. 
It was for us a perfect way to get together again after so many years and try to synchronize a totally unrehearsed sonic adventure in which you might even learn some stuff about whales or whatever those voices say. Hope you enjoy this middle hour of the live set.

Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus 007

The 7th instalment of our In:Focus Series places the spotlight on a very specific point in time - The Early Deepchord records years.

In the late 1990s the Deepchord record label was co-founded by Rod Modell & Mike Schommer in Detroit, Michigan. After just four years and achieving far more success than initially anticipated, DeepChord Records wound down operations. For this In Focus we want to concentrate specifically on the work that Rod and Mike did before they disbanded.

Across the Dub Techno scene the name Deepchord carries the highest of gravitas. Elite level quality, and considered by many to be, alongside Basic Channel, the blueprint of the genre.

So much has been written about Deepchord over the years, and we're not here to repeat what's been said (you can check out a great interview with Mike from a few years ago here - inn8.net/interview-with-mike-schommer-deepchord/ ), we're here to celebrate the music and we hope that through this session we have done that.

ABSIS needs little introduction for anyone closely following the Spanish deep electronic music scene. Salva is a multi-faceted artists with a consistently impeccable output crisscrossing through genres including drone ambient, hypnotic techno, progressive downbeat and intricate atmospheric half-time. For his most recent release, he returned to the local Hivern Discs and has previously put out music via Oslated, Affin, Secuecias Temporales, Crescent London and the HOC Radio affiliated red edge (a label we recommend checking out if you’re not yet familiar) ✨

Nearly two and a half hours long, this recording showcases Salva’s deep sensibility to commanding energy within a mix, holding it back and releasing as he plays with tension and truly tests the frontiers between ambient and dance music. It is a testament to how reframing genres and introducing them in different contexts can completely alter the way in which we perceive them and how a well researched and carefully executed mix can transcend any preconceived ideas about these. We're back in the spellbinding Spanish woods, home to Perpendicular Festival, this time with a New York City via Madrid DJ, 037. 037, aka Leo Téllez, one of the members of the Perpendicular crew, delivered a wild ride at this year's gathering. His set was a primal force, instantly gripping the crowd with a relentless halftime beat. As the journey unfolded, 037 threw unexpected twists and turns of trance and electronica, but the core intensity never wavered. The set constantly evolved, floating above a shifting foundation of complex rhythms.
