Under the L 2017-2018

We launched The Radio DePaul Podcast in April, 2015. The idea was to have a weekly, 30-minute podcast that featured clips from different Radio DePaul shows along with feature segments, interviews, and stories that were unique to the podcast. However, quickly after beginning, we realized that people generally preferred to create new material specifically for the podcast, rather than submitting clips from their shows. The stories featured on the show tend to be grounded in the DePaul or local Chicago community, with some exceptions, of course.

On the first-ever episode of The Radio DePaul Podcast, we look at the start of things: things that restart, reopen, and only start once.

Episode 1: Beginnings

We've all heard the expression "April showers bring May flowers," and today we look for things that live up to this adage. Whether it's flu season, seasonal depression, or just plain sweat, there's always better things around the corner.

Every year since 2011, DemonThon has been putting on an annual 24-hour dance marathon to benefit the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. Radio DePaul has had the proud opportunity to partner with this great organization for the past 3 years. This episode is entirely dedicated to DemonThons past and present.

Two weeks ago, DePaul's Center for Journalism Integrity and Excellence honored two prestigious journalists for their excellent and important work over the years - Dean Baquet, executive editor of The New York Times, and Lourdes Duarte, WGN-TV news anchor. Baquet was awarded the Distinguished Journalist Award, and Duarte was awarded with the Distinguished Alumna Award. 

Our newscasters Holly Jenvey and Maddie Schaafsma were lucky enough to catch up with both Baquet and Duarte to talk about the day-to-day tasks of their jobs, the importance of their work and journalism at large, and more. Enjoy!

Sonal interviewed Austin Berg, the vice president of marketing at the Illinois Policy Institute, as well as a number of Sunnyside Dispensary customers and black-market consumers.

Sonal breaks down how Iegalization impacts both low-income and high-income communities, as well as the aspects of price, taxation, and accessibility within this profitable industry.
