The Maharashtra-Gujarat border region in the western peninsular region of India is home to a number indigenous tribes (Adivasi), including Ahirani, Warli, Kokna, Bhilau, and Dangi. Their communities and the rhythms of daily life are rooted in an economy based around farming. Although they have adopted many Hindu customs, they still maintain their own animistic beliefs and rituals, languages, and culture.

This mixtape revolves around the musical instrument known as tarpa or pavri, a type of hornpipe made from cow horn, gourd and wood. It’s hypnotic tones can be heard during harvest festivals, weddings and ecstatic ceremonies involving trance. You’ll also hear some street bands and modern dance club bangers from the region mingled in throughout.
