Here is the mysterious and playful sound-world of obscure Belgian multi-instrumentalist and library music composer Joël Vandroogenbroeck. The man could play flute, sitar, harp, keyboard instruments and was interested in various kind of exotic percussion. Vandroogenbroeck is also famous for being a synth player in a cult Swiss psychedelic and space rock outfit Brainticket in the 1970s.

This show explores Joël’s vast library music output and focuses primarily on his records for German label Coloursound. The establishment was set up in 1979 by jazz musician and lawyer Gunter Greffenius and released all sort of amazing wacky music in a vast array of genres covering all sorts of soundtrack-appropriate stuff, various types of classical /jazz music(s), but also frequently venturing out into electronica, ambient, new age and experimental oddness.

A condensed sound imprint from a trip to India, featuring raw and remixed field recordings from the Western Ghats, Mapusa, and Mumbai by Italian sound explorer and designer Francesco Fonassi. The result is a patient, poetic, slow radio vibe, like something akin to a homemade mantra machine, where Hindu prayers, chants, and bird songs mingle with electric forests, nocturnal reverb chambers, and buzzing loop-poetry. This is a remixed version originally produced for Radio Arte Mobile’s weekly sound selections curated by Lou Pappagallo and Svet Lana.

Originally hailing from Mexico City, we met him as one of the first supporters of our Dub Disco label, when he was buying DuDi01 and DuDi02 on vinyl.
