The next instalment in the Phase Group Mix series is delivered by dear friend and contributing artist to the label, Low Bat. 

Low Bat lives amongst the black coal hills of northern France. When he isn’t marking textbooks and exposing Neue Deutsche Welle to the classrooms, the French DJ, musician and teacher keeps himself busy playing with his band Jean Luc, co-running the Yellow Light of Death festival and curating radio as 1/3 of the team behind Tblisi’s Mutant Radio. 

On top of this, he makes up 1/2 of Lowspace, the newest additions to Phase Group, who’s split tape with Lostsoundbytes will be coming out in December

His Phase Group Mix is a masterfully sequenced mad ride through post punk, psych rock, French trip hop, and proto trance. Thanks Louis!

Born in Milan to a Cameroonian father and a Polish/Lithuanian mother, Nathan moved to Jerusalem at age six. They have spent their childhood in a Jewish ultra-orthodox environment, playing the piano within the context of religious ceremonies and dreaming of becoming a fashion designer and musician. After waking up from the reality they were raised in, they moved to Venice and started to explore the world outside of the mental barriers of religion. While completing their fashion design degree back in Milan, music was their medicine, and they quickly started developing the practice of storytelling through the medium of sound, serendipitously pursuing their father's path as a disk jockey in the vibrancy of the Eighties and Nineties cosmopolitan Milanese nightlife. Their search for home and their devotion to music brought them quickly to Berlin, where they currently create, live, and love.

In March 2023, their debut solo album “Sanctuary of Ideas” was released via the Zurich-Berlin-based label Lustpoderosa.
“Sanctuary of Ideas” is a very personal and optimistic journey by Nathan Dawidowicz. A spiritual path, as cosmic and adventurous as Nathan’s trajectory, with beautiful twists and psychedelic twirls into their personal rabbit hole. A record full of memories and positive affirmations, filled with jazzy yet psychedelic Cosmic and Krautrock elements. A fusion of inspiration and a perfect reflection of Dawidowicz's heritage.

After closing our recent event at 90mil for Slowfoam's album launch, André set about to capture the essence of his set and the evening into a new mix for us.

Reflecting back, it was truly special to see the coming together of such diverse social spheres and how quickly all was broken down in the atmosphere of Andre's music. At the core, his sets are a total celebration of life, an invitation to dance no matter how undanceable or mysterious the song. Music you’ve never heard becomes the music you’ve known all your life.

Across fluctuating tension and rhythm, all sorts of worlds intertwine… digi-dub morphs to acid to avant-folk in perfect harmony. But what stands out most is the pure admiration for DIY music; it’s the curation of a tender heart, finding the purest of souls in the strangest of music. 

Towards the close of this wonderful set, Laurie Anderson recalls ‘I remember where I came from, there were tropical breezes and a wide open sea, I remember my childhood, I remember being free.’ It’s a sentiment that embodies the experience of André music, an invitation to be utterly lost in the most beautiful ephemeral moment, that melancholy-tinged euphoria in the instant before it’s all over, stretched out for eternity.

He is dedicated to promoting obscure and non-obvious music through the curation of his eponymous mix series and two radio shows on Malmö-based Retreat Radio. His broad musical interests range from meditative ambient, outsider folk, and medieval ballads to pre-Columbian music, delay-infused post-punk, trap shoegaze, and everything in between and beyond.
