In January 2020 I found myself in Ljubljana exploring abandoned spaces as a continuation of my obsession with listening to the Third Landscape – Gilles Clément’s concept which considers, among other things, abandoned urban landscapes or those which suffered an explicit human intervention as places good for thriving bio-diversities which are building the genetic reservoirs that an overall Ecosystem is dependant on. I instantly got hooked by the largest city project – The Sport Park Stožice. It was supposed to include sport facilities and a vast commercial area but only the public part was built, the arena and the stadium. Eighty thousand square meters of the shopping centre remained unfinished.

As often, politics and economics are inseparable, and as corruptive mechanisms become more obvious, both reveal deep submergence into necropolitics. A capital cumulation on the detriment of basic social rights leading to a radical devaluation of a human life. To cut the story short, most of the “modern” societies “background” economics can be reduced to arms sales, drugs, and human trafficking routes. Beneath them are stock value of oil and lithium, gold and diamonds. 

“Please be careful, you’ll be trespassing”, said a dear friend.

The private partner in the public-private largest investment in Slovenia since the 1970s went bankrupt in 2012. 

There were irregularities in the expenditure of EU funds, the then-Mayor pleads not guilty in the latest lawsuit investigating the case. 

“There used to be a wonderful pond, and a hilly landscape… now it’s just concrete, wherever you look, there’s concrete.”

It was a crispy January morning, I wore my army boots. The site was enormous. Several concrete terraces were covered in various surfaces, reaching as far as the eye can see. I decided to just walk.

The composition is made around an excerpt from my Stožice abandoned construction site field recording archive. Recorded in January 2020 during the reZone residency in Ljubljana.

Handstitched* returns with a new release in the split-artist series - where two artists feature back-to-back on both CD and tape. Offthesky and Soysea meet somewhere in the middle for this amazing release. Both of the artists' music compliment each other very nicely, a perfect pairing of musical minds and sound.

Offthesky makes his second appearance on Handstitched*, after the mesmerising "to break is something sacred" long-player in 2019. Jason's new work "Anatomy of Infinity" features three epic pieces, shrouded in timeworn mystery, far-eastern echoes shine through, glistening and descending through a contrast of discord and awe-inspiring beams of light. 

Soysea makes a welcome appearance on Handtitched* - after hearing his music previously we were excited to get a chance to release "Oriens". Michele's music is nicely-rounded, understated drones and subtle vocals carry the listener through longitudinal divisions, meaningful and with purpose, the music is splendid, soulful and thought-provoking. 

It's amazing to get the chance, once again for another Offthesky release, this time alongside Soysea - the music is simply elegant, and contentment, which Handstitched* is very happy to put proudly out-there. Each format is limited to 50 copies each. The tape release is slid into hand-made, creased, folded and assembled cotton rag O-cards, the CD release comes in hand-made gatefold sleeves with mixed-media collage cover artworks, every design is individual, unique and made by hand.

Offthesky / Soysea - Anatomy of Infinity / Oriens HS49/T [s4mpl3r]

"Škvar" is a sound installation composed by Manja Ristić & Mark Vernon, as a part of the site-specific installation "Invoking shipbuilding in Korčula" created and realized by the visual artist Matea Šabić Sabljić aka @_argo_nauta_

The installation will be presented on the 6th and 7th of December, next to the Antifascist memorial by architect Bernardo Bernardi which was built at the exact place of an old shipyard.

Sound work is an extension of an art action: "Taking the tool in your hands is an act of honesty", which took place in September and engaged wider community. The participatory action involved people bringing hammers and nailing the names of old Korčula's shipbuilders into the planks of abandoned boats. Doing so produced the noise — sound of an old shipyard that was gone decades ago.

This public action became a silver lining of the sound work "Škvar".

Matea continued to collect hammers in Korčula, Dubrovnik, Split, Betina and Zagreb. Collected hammers will be installed as a site-specific installation accompanied by the sound work. Collecting hammers is continuing as a work in progress for the sake of "Invoking shipbuilding in Korčula" hoping to initiate a Museum which will protect both history and the future of local shipbuilding.

Korčulanski škveri i majstorske radionice svjedoče slavnu korčulansku brodograditeljsku prošlost. Glas o kvaliteti njihovog rada je bio nadaleko poznat. Korčulanske obitelji brodograditelja sagradile su na tisuće brodova. 
Međutim, rad, znanje i vještina koji su bili dio svakodnevice otoka kroz stoljeća, pa sve do kraja prošlog tisućljeća, izgubili su se. Nestale su radionice, pa škverovi. Pa i majstori.
Zazivamo sve te davne meštre i meštrice,
Zazivamo sve buduće meštre i meštrice,
Da uzmu alat u ruke i krenu graditi!
Želimo “uškvariti” značaj korčulanskih škvarova. Kolektivna memorija izgradnje tisuća brodova je zapisana u rukama. Treba se prisjetiti. Zakucati brokvu po brokvu. Dasku po dasku. Brod po brod.
Značaj korčulanske brodogradnje uokviriti, “uškvariti” muzejom, oko kojeg će se stvarati novi brodovi i novi meštri.
Meštar po meštar.
Meštrica po meštrica.

Revised version of "Traces: for Electric Organ, i-Phone Videos, Objects and Electronics". (The first iteration was presented at KM28 in Berlin on April 24, 2019, as part of "Very Organized"  a concert of works for electric organ by a group of Berlin-based composers. ) Variation 2 is part of an immersive multi-channel work that is currently in progress.

Radiophrenia is a temporary art radio station – an exploration into current trends in sound and transmission arts. Broadcasting live from Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts, the station aims to promote radio as an art form, encouraging challenging and radical new approaches to the medium. The broadcast schedule will include live shows, pre-recorded features and a series of ‘live-to-air’performances. The majority of the programme will be made up from selections submitted to an international open call for sound and radio works.
