"waterlilies in fontiform" [framework editions, 2023] 🪷

Such an honor to be part of framework radio’s seasonal issues with a new piece of fontiform music!

Thought as a continuation of the work "for scarpa's fountains” [forms of minutiae, 2020], the composition "waterlilies in fontiform" weaves field recordings made in, on, and around the Tomba Brion in San Vito d'Altivole. Designed by the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa in the 70s, this burial ground materializes as a garden guided by a multitude of lines made of concrete, metal, marble, and glass. Yet as one wanders in this peculiar landscape, one soon realizes that concrete isn’t the tomb’s primary material, water is. As if submerged, the graves are encircled by basins interconnected by a network of fountains, rivulets, and pipes. Water striders, sporadic frogs, vibrant fish and tapestries of waterlilies glide over sunken pyramidal stepped edges, echoing ruins of bygone architectures. An aqueous rhizome at the heart of the garden which steers us through the whole sanctuary. The composition brings listeners into the various materialities of the space and the underwater hums of the fontiform network's machinery. Moreover, subtle algae photosynthesis, muffled voices of human visitors, and the garden's avian inhabitants infuse with life the architect's carefully organized matter. Ambiguous feelings arise as if perched in equilibrium on the crests of the tomb's multifarious structures. The piece ends with openings (both geographical and temporal) as the uncanny murmurs of the flowing waters are joined by the drones of another (temporary) Venetian fountain, Claire Tabouret's sculpture "Deux Baigneuses'', before fading into the vespertine soundscape of a small Portuguese village. A midwife toad calls in the darkness, bells resound in a valley, as Brion Tomb’s architectonic specter lingers in the flowing waters.

> Note: Tomba Brion is also the resting place of Scarpa himself, who shared that "the place for the dead is a garden".

waterlilies in fontiform [framework editions]

Shahin Entezami, also known by his stage name “Tegh” is a musician and sound artist and practitioner based in Tehran, Iran. In his music, Tegh tries to bring new aural experiences to life by using various audio elements and complex soundscapes. These experiences usually manifest his personal perception of facing new stories, geographies and different situations. The ways he usually tries to express these ideas take root in Noise, Drone and Experimental electronic styles and sometimes manifest themselves in the form of electroacoustic compositions.
He has also released albums and singles on labels like Opal Tapes (UK), Hibernate Recordings (UK), Dronarivm (RU), Inner Ocean Records (CA), Midira Records (DE), Futuresequence (US), Flaming Pines (UK), Injazero Records (UK/TR), PTP Recordings (US), and more.
Also, based on his eagerness to discover the world of other artists he has been involved in many collaboration projects like “Artirial”, “Temp-Illusion”, “Tegh & Adel Poursamadi” and so forth.

Here'z yet another dope live mix by my brother of another mother, DJ Pierre. Thee innovator of Acid House & tha creator of the Wild Pitch sound.I have to give much prop'z to my brother for helping me out to staying focused when creating music & djing. We played a lot together at various clubs around the globe & let me tell you, every time I'd play, Pierre would jump on the EQ & tweak it while I dj'd. There was something magical about our sets together.
I also have to give Pierre mad respect for supplying me with unreleased music to test out on all the radio shows I did. I also learned a lot on how he works on his productions. That alone was alwayz a treat to just soak up as much as I can.
Anyhow, this is a live set of my brother from Wicked in San Francisco. Talk about a musical journey!!!

discourse (Katayoun Arian) is an Iranian-Dutch DJ, curator and writer based in Amsterdam. She is the founder of FWD: Gher Space, an Amsterdam-based platform that aims to be a home for a growing community of womxn and non-binary DJs and artists in particular. The platform strives to connect music loving audiences, dancers, artists with different experiences, cultural backgrounds, and gender identities, to diverse musical traditions, communities, and venues. Growing up in the Netherlands, Katayoun developed a versatile musical interest ranging from techno, classical music from Iran and beyond all the way to funk, smooth jazz, R&B and dancehall. Currently, she is particularly interested in the question of what an archive can do, and therefore also what and archive can be by activating and rearranging aural archives centring on female vocalists from Iran and beyond. Her mixtapes for Red Light Radio entitled 'Female Vocalists from Iran (and Beyond)' are arrangements through which she explores but also emphasizes her conviction that the meaning of archival documents changes through the ways they are activated and (re-)arranged.
