Roots are usually the image from nature we use to define one's attachment to some sort of existence, be it a place or time. A trait we deem a necessity, mostly in a world so vast and diverse that everything in it becomes fluid, so someone needs to be attached to something in order to not be swept away by the constant flow of reality. But some people adopt this fluidity as their very identity, first as a person and then as an artist. Such is the case with our guest for this episode, an earthling whose origins are rooted in many places, yet not fixed in any. Rakim Under’s artistic persona is richly informed by the multifarious soil that an upbringing in constant transit as the offspring of global parents can provide, but it is his take on this varied background that makes all the difference. As we can clearly hear in this mix, it fuels a restless creative energy that links many sounds with constancy and informs a logic that manages to sustain an enthralling narrative with coherence.  The result is a deeply personal expression of the interconnectedness of our own musical culture.

Made up of a mixture of long time summer favourites and new finds from his recent trips to Portugal and Brazil, Wes' Summer Sticky Tapes embodies a typical spontaneous summer day. It starts off breezy and carefree after which it gets infused with adventurous summer energy, stopping by in various exotic places and ending with a dance on the beach.
Typical for Wes' summer, in which he was constantly changing plans according to the weather and mood. This spirit also comes back in the act of the recording; "Even though I started the recording with a well thought out plan, during the recording it felt better to start pulling out tunes of the closet spontaneously", he tells us.

Sticky Tapes is a seasonal mixtape series. Four times a year we ask our favourite selectors to compile a mixtape in the ambiance of the seasons.

The Seiva series, in which our resident Fruno highlights DJ talent from Brazil, is another mix richer. This time, DJ and promoter from São Paulo, Sarlim, is his guest. Sarlim is host of the eclectic monthly show Radio Fantasma in Veneno.live, and co-founder and curator of @ninho.

In this mix, Sarlim tried to create a balance between what he usually plays at the parties he produces, with some of his findings that he listens to at home drinking wine while relaxing. A mix full of references ranging from acid jazz and new beat to house and trance from the 90s. A full plate for those who like music, good music.
