BBC Three Counties Radio and Iain Lee have said sorry after complaints were received about an interview on homosexuality.

The conversation with Libby Powell, from campaign group Christian Concern on November 3rd got heated which ended up with Iain Lee saying prison worker Revd Barry Trayhorn was “obnoxious” and “poisonous”.


Trayhorn is taking his employer to a tribunal amid claims he was forced to resign for reading a Bible verse about homosexuality.

When Ms Powell said homophobia was a fear Mr Lee said it was a “cute answer” but homophobia was a “hatred of gays”.

The eight minute interview was at 6.15am on November 3rd, as the first item on Iain’s weekday breakfast show.

A statement from senior editorial staff told Premier Christian Radio: “The BBC – and Iain Lee himself – wish to apologise for any offence that may have been caused.” Iain Lee apologised on air and said: “Last week I interviewed the Revd Barry Trayhorn and solicitor Libby Powell about their understanding of biblical teaching on homosexuality.

“I want to make it clear that I apologise for any offence that may have been caused over the way I conducted the interviews.”

Absolute Radio has said sorry after stand-in presenter/comedian Lou Sanders caused Ofcom to investigate the Geoff Lloyd show.

Lou was covering for Annabel Port when the presenters on the show were discussing chat-up lines. At 18:40 there was an item featuring Lou Sanders reading out a number of “unisex…chat-up lines”.


One of the lines was read out by Lou Sanders who said: “Hello sweetie, do you have the time….. to suck me off?!”

Geoff Lloyd immediately said: “Sorry about that listeners” and then played a music track. After the track had finished, both Geoff Lloyd and Lou Sanders apologised for what she had said.

Nervy about the upcoming promotion Mike Toolan said: “I’ve hosted a lot exciting competitions over the years but none has had me on the edge of my seat quite as much as this. The true nature of our listeners will be revealed… it could go anyway, there could be scandal across the city.”
 
Chris Pegg, Programming Director commented: “This is going to be seat of your pants radio, nothing like this has ever been done on UK radio like this before and it’s going to get Manchester talking”. 

In the first round this morning, a listener told her story about how she wants a wedding ring then the phone lines were open for 30 seconds to see if anyone called in to steal the prize from her.

Singer Ed Sheeran surprised Scott Mills and Chris Stark by dropping in a swear word during a live interview.

Ed was asked about how he plays his new material to his friends, to which he replied he usually does it when he's pi**ed.

It was one of just 62 radio interviews he conducted on Friday with radio stations all over the world, but was part of a co-hosted show with Scott Mills on the breakfast show.
