COLOBOMA | Lost Minute Radio Show #19 | 05/06/2020

Boshke Beats is on, and we’re talking with Arne from the Extrawelt / Midimiliz duo, followed by a set made especially for the occasion.

Living and breathing electronic music for what has now been twenty years, Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe have carved out a piece of its history and showed us that in the vast spectrum of dance music, where the normal world ends, Extrawelt begins. Starting out as DJ’s, they found their pathway to production in the studio of fellow Hamburg natives, X-Dream. The inspiration they took away from these initial sessions soon pollinated into projects such as ‘Midimiliz', and ‘Spirallianz’; both of which gained remarkable success in the scene. However, it was in 2005 that they started a new project by the name of Extrawelt — marking a new musical trajectory. The very first production under this new moniker, `Soopertrack´ found itself in the hands of James Holden, who then released it on his revered Border Community label. This breakthrough single would pave the way for an exceptional career that includes a plethora of records, remixes and countless live shows at the most interesting clubs and festivals around the
globe.
With their debut album ’Schöne Neue Extrawelt’ garnering attention on both the dance floor and in the media, it was a telling sign of things to come when voted “Best Album 2008” by Groove Magazine and both “Best Album” and “Best Live Act” for the same year in Raveline. As 2011 rolled around, so too did their second album ‘In Aufruhr’ which was also released on Sven Väth’s label Cocoon Recordings and was as equally acclaimed as the first. Adding to the list of notable publications is Faze Magazine, whose readers’
poll awarded them “Best Live Act in 2014” — not surprising considering their live act has been defining them for over a decade and leaving permanent impressions on audiences everywhere. For the duo, each and every show is a chance to manipulate their sound in a flow of measured spontaneity — all while using gear that most people would keep tucked away in their studio. The result is a live-act focussed on purism and great care in presenting the deepest core of their sound — in essence; exactly what sums up their musical galaxy.
2017 marked a year of renewal in the Extrawelt realm. Besides their new studio and freshly curated live set up, their third album ‘Fear of an Extra Planet’ edged itself into the world and found new space to occupy with its focussed and to-the-point ten track oeuvre. And in late 2018 these studio addicts and sound benders will deliver their fourth album, fittingly titled ‘Unknown’ — a journey which deviates into unfamiliar territory. A
brave electronic composition, it hits a sweet-spot with their very own take on electro, while still dazzling us with depth and unique harmonics we have come to know of the pair. By default, this has summoned the arrival of what the pair enjoys doing most; playing live on tours throughout the world with music which continues to remind people of the purity of techno music’s past while shedding light on the sound of the future.

In recent years ayahuasca has gained a global reputation as a powerful tool for personal transformation. Could ayahuasca also play a role in literally transforming and reforesting the world?
This lecture will explore community-lead ayahuasca cultivation as an opportunity for regenerating degraded landscapes of the Amazon rainforest. We’ll discuss the ‘boom’ of interest in Amazonian curanderismo and ayahuasca, reviewing the legal, medical and cultural evolution of the psychoactive brew’s journey across the world. Drawing from the lineage of sacred activism, we’ll also discuss ecological stewardship, permaculture principals, and consider how personal transformation can be a gateway to conscious landscape transformation.
Sophia Rokhlin MSc. is a writer, permaculture-lover and program coordinator developing socially just and regenerative land-use systems. She holds a Master’s degree in ecological economics and is the co-author of the forthcoming book When Plants Dream: Ayahuasca, Amazonian Shamanism and the Global Psychedelic Renaissance(Watkins, 2019). She is a program coordinator at the Chaikuni Institute and directs the sustainable & ethical ayahuasca cultivation program at The Temple of the Way of Light, a traditional plant medicine healing centre in the Peruvian Amazon.

Not so long ago, radiOzora was connecting homes for the 3rd time. Here is KALUMET's DJ set that he recorded for this special event.

Kalumet is Zoltan Vajda from Hungary.
One of the oldschool master of storytellers of the psychedelic trance scene. He got involved in the mid 90's, early enough to see the spreading of trance worldwide, to witness its transforming through the 00's to our present time. Considering this kind of possession of psychedelic experience, one can never be in doubt to have a very special time when he is playing, be it live act or DJ set.
His musical history goes back to late 80's, when he grabbed his first accords on the guitar. The bass guitar came in a few years later, and his world of sounds slowly got a shape, influenced by Joy Division, The Clash, Suicidal Tendecies / Infectious Grooves, L.A. Style, The Overlords, U96, Kraftwerk, Front Line Assembly, Yello, Gabor Szabo, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Korai Öröm, Hardfloor, Emmanuel Top, the Ninja Tunes like Herbalizer and Coldcut, Morcheeba, then Green Nuns Of The Revolution, Quirk, X-Dream, Four Carry Nuts, the Matsuri, Dragonfly and Spirit Zone releases, Audio Active, Black Star Liner, Korsakoff,  then in the beginning of the last decade, by early Iboga, ZMA, CreamCrop, Disham and Son Kite, and maybe most of all, the traditional / folk music of the whole world.
In the late 90's he formed Alapzaj Foundation (Basic Noise) with his friends and took part in throwing parties in Budapest with fog machines, strobes, a VJ, while acid house and acid trance was played.
Having a wide musical culture like this, he never kept his imagination on a short leash. In fact, he is mostly known from his unmistakable manner of creating free-form fusion dance music. Since his first remix in 1998 until this 2015, he released more than hundred tracks on many labels from Chi Recordings through Kagdila, Psylife Music, BrainBusters to Horns And Hoofs, IRMA Records, Random Records or Sangoma, he represents a very wide range of styles.
Under different names such as Ork Monk, Trevor McGregor, and Tiger Punch, he traveled through half of the world to perform in special places like a cinema in Donetsk, a laundry in Cologne, a bowling alley in Tokyo, in the catacombs of Buda Castle, in the middle of Kanchanaburi lake near Bangkok, the mountains of Transylvania and Bulgaria, the forests of Lithuania and northern Russia, the magical beaches of Koh Phangan, jungles of Brazil, clubs of Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, London and Moscow, main stages of Ozora, Lost Theory, chill out areas of Boom, Voov, … Currently living in Gozo, Malta.
