July Show Summary (2022)

This Disco Gecko Recordings episode features TOBY MARKS, and a mix of relaxing, uplifting music to float away on. Toby Marks is a recording artist, performer, producer and record label owner, best known for his eclectic global dance and chill-out music. Emerging from 1980’s acid house, he has gone on to record and perform worldwide as Banco de Gaia, fusing house, dub, prog rock, jazz and world music elements. More recently has developed a growing interest in electroacoustic composition and other areas of ambient electronic music. He is particularly interested in immersive sonic environments and the meeting point of deliberate and random composition. He is currently focussing on ambient works drawing on soundscape recordings from man and nature blended with simple but beautiful musical motifs. In performance he incorporates video imagery, generated live where possible, to create a truly engrossing and uplifting experience.

UNI is a Psychedelic Trance project based in Japan, formed in '96 by Yasunori Matsuda & Yamazaki Yasushi, who started music production influenced by Goa Trance, and their style is impressive melody and story combined with the Japanese style. UNI has been performing at hundreds of events in Japan including legendary parties, and also at the international big festivals in Taiwan, Greece, Australia, and Israel, to name some, and have released 5 albums since 2008. Currently UNI is produced by Yasunori as a solo project. UNI & Tsuyoshi Suzuki feat YUKI-M "Kotodama" released on Nano Records was in the top 100 Beatport for 50 days. UNI represents a worldview, a one-of-a-kind story that mixes old-school taste with striking melodies and fat, groovy new sounds.

Microcosmos presents PANDA ON THE BAMBOO TREE and his DJ set including tracks from the newest "Xtradimensional Motions" album, some works from the previous albums and some unreleased stuff as well, not played anywhere else and special for this occasion. Panda On the Bamboo Tree is a musician from Poland and has been developing his project for about 8 years, although his first tracks in this particular chill out style were made few years back. His approach to psychedelic and chill out music have been developing through all these years. He is still improving, claiming there's still a lot to do in terms of skills and musicianship. But, if anyone would like to experience Panda's music, listen to the new album "Xtradimensional Motions". Variegated electronics and deep bass are harmoniously diluted with ethnic motifs and even acoustic Indian vocals. The musician combines genres such as downtempo, chillout, lounge and others, creating unique psychedelic music piece by piece. Some compositions reach the most secret corners of consciousness, others make the body move to the rhythm of the melodic pattern.

This Aphid series episode features PSIBINDI's latest psy-trance release 'Sentient Rays EP' with Aphid Moon and Mechanimal, released on Aphid Records in March 2022 to commemorate international women's day. The EP reached the top 5 releases in Beatport. The mix also features new Psibindi collaborations with Colin Bennun (OOOD) and Mindfield (John Phantasm). Psibindi is an international DJ and prolific vocalist best known for her distinctive selection of powerful psychedelic trance, interwoven with her signature psy-FX vocals. The classically trained Indian singer and accomplished psychedelic trance DJ has made waves as a producer in recent years. Signed to UK label Aphid Records, Psibindi has teamed up with psy-trance maestros Aphid Moon and Mechanimal. The characteristic sounds of Psibindi come to life in her fourth collaborative EP 'Sentient Rays', teaming up again with Aphid Moon and Mechanimal. Her track with Mechanimal ‘Luminous Rays’ was hand picked by the award winning DJ Jaguar and played on her BBC Introducing Dance show on BBC Radio 1 and then again on BBC Asian Network. In 2020, Binary Star [which she co-produced with Aphid Moon], caught the attention of global superstar DJ, Nina Kraviz, who played the track during her eclectic Hot Steel DJ set at Cavo Paradiso Club in Mykonos.  As founder of global arts platform Psy-Sisters, she continues to push the boundaries for female artists in the music industry. Their Global South campaign was featured in Mixmag in Summer 2021.

With a mix of his favorite tunes from the past 12 months titled 'Contorted Frequencies', this Woo Dog Recordings episode stars WILKO. South African-born Andy Wilkinson aka W17K0 started DJing in 1995, playing hard house, trance, techno and electro around Cape Town from 2005–10. Retiring from DJing in 2011, it was only after he caught the psy trance bug that his passion for music was reignited and he started spinning psy trance in 2017. Since then he’s more than caught up for lost time, quickly becoming a regular on the London circuit and playing at Eden Festival, Black Pearl, Own Spirit Festival in Spain and Vortex in South Africa. He has recently joined the Woo-Dog Recordings family as a label DJ complementing their talented roster of producers and DJs. His selection of tough and chunky tunes with a dash of funk guarantees to get the dancefloor bouncing.

Random Records presents DON PEPE and "The Secret Chamber of Dreams". This DJ-set is an extension of his upcoming album "Mossbädd Sessions", where a couple of the album tracks will be spotted. Not bound to any particular genre, this is a deep, pure and futureprimitive take on electronic trance music. Don Pepe fell into the rabbit hole of psychedelic music in his early teens 20 years ago, and started playing around with DJ-gear soon after. Many deaths and rebirths have passed since then, where the only constant has been a neverending, everlasting love for musical, natural and transcendental exploration. Although deeply rooted in ”Psy”, he’s equally active in chill out and alternative dance floor settings, fusing his many influences into dynamic, emotive marathon DJ-sets. In recent years he has put more focus towards the production side of things in the studio, resulting in two debut albums released later this year. Partly as Pepe’s Bodega, his Psytrance collaboration project, on Mark Day’s new label Muinima Sounds, and partly the "Mossbädd Sessions" album on Random Records. The latter is a compilation of tracks made in the spring of 2021, while living in Mossbädd deep into the woods of Södermanland. Influenced by past travels, nature and many corners of his record collection, it’s a deep dive into Don Pepe’s musical legacy. Apart from that he has worked as a music journalist within the Swedish Electronica scene, artist manager for international festivals like Midnight Sun Festival, and is currently running Navigare Audio, a record label focusing on deep, entrancing Techno.

His style is fusion of progressive and fullon daytime psytrance with some added touches of ethnic elements and still keeping it in line with the current music scene. This Sacraticum episode features CORD. Cord started in the early 2000s, with breakbeats on Hungary's legendary Chi Recordings. Later he started to experiment on more psychedelic and experimental genres, then after refining his music creation toolset and process, Maktub EP was born under the courtesy of Merkaba Music in 2020. Current path is touching the psychedelic genres born from midtempo electronic music, different types of psy-tech spiced with the original Cord vibes: counterpointing motives and rhythmic structures, eastern melodies and interesting sounds. His music always tries to tell a story with a long, progressing arrangements, spiced up with mind tickling sounds. Bouncing and driving, a great fusion of different influences with strong melodic elements, twisted arps and synth lines. These are there also when he is on stage: his performance is somewhere between a DJ set and a live act. In his own created environment he uses the tracks very creatively, always resulting in a never-heard-of puzzle.

The Sonic Loom series continues with TROMO, who is giving us a taste of his 2022 live set, in the heart of the festival season. Athenian Yiannis S. aka Tromo has shown great interest in music and music production from a very young age, studied guitar and synthesizer, and after experimenting with various rock and metal bands, he was convinced that music is his calling. Around 1997, Yiannis discovered the magic in electronic sounds and psytrance music by going to parties and festivals around Greece and Europe. Influenced by the Psychedelic Trance scene, in 2007 he created the Tromo project and released his first track on Mighty Quinn Records. In 2011 he joined Sonic Loom and continued experimenting with his unique sound and atmosphere. In the process of creating and exploring, two side projects were born "Quadraphonic" with Antonymous and "OhmInside" with Drury Nevil. Presently he is in full productive & creative mode and upon releasing his debut album concentrates on his solo and side projects.
