Viennese don Peter Kruder’s gradual metamorphosis from king of downtempo to purveyor of classy house and techno was perhaps one of the more unexpected shifts amongst electronic luminaries of last few decades, but it has not been in vain. 

His work as half of Kruder & Dorfmeister soundtracked a million crack-ons, afterhours, comedowns, smoke-outs and lounge sessions and remains some of the most timeless material of the recent era.

Under his own name, he has built a long-running relationship with DJ Hell and his International Deejay Gigolo imprint, releasing several EPs of thought-provoking 4/4 as well as releases on Stefan Goldmann’s Macro and Compost Black Label. His mix for Monologues is a journey through some of his finest remixes, showing his respectful and subtle skill in reworking everything from Daft Punk-produced electronic soul to bossa nova and jazz. It’s an honour to have him contribute to the series.

Since the beginning of Trip While You Sleep, we are making our best to subtract the blues from our playing, slowing down chord progressions or removing them entirely, 
to achieve the sensation of a deep, suspended, continuous tone which lays a solid foundation for decorative elements, sometimes resembling detailed natural ambiences,
sometimes synthesized and deliberately out of focus.

The sound is soft and quite dull on purpose as more high frequencies content and more loudness would prevent the onset of the hypnagogic states this release is all about.
You can easily adjust your favorite volume level with the first track, also with headphones.


"The idea behind Trip While You Sleep is to tailor a unique fine aural thread between different states of mind.
This music helps to intensify the inner focus, by acting as a lens on the audience subtle mental pre-sleep imagery;
On one hand active meditative states such as the commonly referred “trance induction” which is one of the most significant effects of modern, electronic music and more ancient, tribal gatherings.
On the other hand more quiet, introspective meditative states, which often occur spontaneously in moments that see the conscious part of the mind drifting off, be it a guided meditation or a state where the mind and the body are about to rest, referred as hypnagogic states."

Our 25th Anniversary slot this week features Richard Dorfmeister who appeared on the show in 2003 and featured many times as one half of Kruder and Dorfmeister, as well as his project Tosca with Rupert Huber, amongst others. Opening with ECM artist Steve Tibbetts, his mix floats between Gui Boratto, his own lush edit for Selah Sue, acoustic guitar of Jeb Loy Nichols and the dubbed out Rhythm & Sound featuring Cornell Campbell on vocals. He then weaves through Pat Metheney, the dub version of Sunset from Grace Jones' last album, blues from Ry Cooder and ending with a couple of tracks from his recent Tosca album 'Odeon'.
