When DJs and producers @eris-drew and @octoocta first met, they felt an instant connection that has only grown over the years. Kindred spirits in both music and life, the pair released their first split EP entitled Devotion in 2018, sharing the same artistic values that make their music deeply moving in all senses of the word. Their DJ sets, meanwhile, light up the dancefloor — their back to backs can be as bombastic and high-energy as they are personal and emotive, speaking to a healing force that seems to drive all of their work. 

In this episode, we discuss their b2bs, their joint tour and label, @T4TLUVNRG, and their collaborative project Alchemical Sisters — the latest addition to a cosmic world in full colour.

Rehearsal Zero

This release is a compilation of 8 years' worth of tracks (dusting in my computer), born from rainy day jams and challenging moments, like the pandemic. Among them, three tracks have mesmerized me, pushing me to explore and create without constraints of genre or trend. These compositions are more than just music; they embody a profound journey of self-exploration. Each note and beat reflects the depths of my emotions and experiences, revealing layers of myself.

La muse n’existe pas - 100bpm - Trip-Hop - Soul
This track is a fusion of 90s rhythms and soulful phrases, born from a jam session with a Boss SP202 and a Microkorg. It includes samples from Tosca's "Worksong" and an inspiring Moodyman interview. A delightful Rhodes solo, played with my charmingly amateurish style, adds character. From this jam, several tracks were born, each cherished and waiting to be shared. It's a tribute to blending influences and the magic of sampling, encapsulating the essence of my musical journey.

Rehearsal Zero - 124bpm Ambient
Sometimes, many of the songs I create lack a conventional structure. Born in the 90s, my early exposure to Trance tracks during elementary school left a lasting impression. Despite my efforts to break free from the intro-body-break-climax format, I've come to accept and embrace it. This track, the origin of the “Surrealismus” song, emerged from a vivid amalgamation of concepts: industrialization, diverse ideologies rooted in nations, and the impact of globalization. Amidst this chaotic mental landscape, I channeled my stress into the music.

The voices, atmospheres, and textures cry out in desperation, echoing the complexities of our world. Yet, a glimmer of hope emerges towards the end, embodied by a resolute stab that harmonizes with everything else. My aspiration has always been to create ambient tracks or music for films and video games; it's my ultimate dream. This composition serves as a stepping stone towards that goal—a practice to reach the realm of my aspirations.

3.- Egtn Days - 120bpm Breaks, Techno, Acid

During the pandemic, I found solace in dealing with stress and uncertainty by delving deep into jamming and exploring genres I had long admired but never fully embraced, such as dub and ambient. My attempt to infuse dub elements led to a unique sound that defies genre classification – a delightful blend of beats and atmospheres. I connected a Behringer TD-3 to my computer, crafting rhythms that could be for the dancefloor or simply for listening pleasure; I can't quite tell. These tracks quickly became my favorites, and I've decided to share them.

The composition features rich percussion, captivating atmospheres, and an acid lead that sets the tone. As it progresses, it closes with techno elements and a sample I stumbled upon in an old hard drive from my Reason Daw days – a nostalgic touch that adds to the track's character.

On the other hand, DJ Rolando, an iconic figure in the world of electronic music, takes listeners on a journey through his own sonic universe, reimagining the EP's tracks in his inimitable way.
