A live set from Visions of Love - a gathering that took place in the Chiltern Hills just outside of London.

I chose a (loose) theme of 'from disco to rave and back' for this, where I attempted to draw a line from the energy of the late 70's New York disco scene to the UK rave scene of the 90's and then onwards to some more recent interpretations of these styles.

A big point of inspiration for the theme was from thinking about how the Paradise Garage & Studio 54 scenes might have eventually gone on (via Chicago) to eventually evolve and pave the way for some of the music made during the height of the UK free party and Madchester / Hacienda scenes. And there were surely similarities in freedom and fun between these two eras!

Recording this in a field with a booming sound system and a lot of happy people  definitely gave a bit of a free party vibe - and lots of sing along moments and even some tears shed. What a night!

If you thought the Kiwis were a friendly, genial bunch then think again, The Wild Army has gone down under to rob, steal, conquer and plunder. 

Max Maxwell's Always Right In goes in with some bouncing big room house made to be heard on a big rig. Squelching bass, spoken word, smooth production and a breakdown for peak time as the delayed synths wonk out. 

Marcos Alonso's remix ups the wobble and squelch but makes it a more heads-down affair. Proper nailed down, deep house music that delivers.

Nick Munday goes techno with acid bass, arpeggiated arps, MPC drums and a whole heap of machine soul. One for the heads, the dancers and the ravers.

Marcos' Piece Of The Puzzle is subterranean house music that wobbles, burbles and slides along, driven by rhythm guitar. Synth melodies, SFX vocal snippets and smooth production go late night. 

Paper artist Kennedy takes Piece of the Puzzle, keeping things low and slow but adding a bit of extra fizz. Warped vocals take things leftfield.

This edition of the Innerflight mix series features a blast from Seattle's past, Kristina Childs. If you remember the legendary Krakt techno parties and Decibel Festival, you'll find Kristina's influence on the Seattle electronic music scene. She has relocated to Egypt for a number of years but is hitting the PNW this summer for a visit and a number of DJ appearances. The mix is a tight blend of early summer grooves touching on some tribal, afro house and tech and is just what the doctor ordered.
