A piano piece processing my grief around my grandmothers passing, gratitude, & healing intergenerational trauma. Unrestrained self expression & showing up as I am, taking up as much space as possible, filling the room with the echo & keys of the piano - accompanied with wailing, crying, yelling, and scream singing, all while (for the most part) staying in key.

This song sort of flowed out of me. Often when I’m having big emotions, the piano is the best conduit for moving them through my body, and holding my tears or anger or sadness with such care. Playing piano is one thread of connection I still have with my grandfather (on the right in the picture), even though he’s been gone almost 13 years. 

Through this song, I invite you to witness my vulnerability with compassion, and maybe get more in touch with your own in the process.

Spoken word poem inspired by the mycelium energy that connects us all

mycelium threads

This song emerged in a moment of realizing I wasn’t doing well in my mental health - I was just feeling “fine” almost all of the time. To quote Andrea Gibson’s Angels of the Get-Through, “‘Fine’ is the suckiest word. It is the opposite of HERE.” 

During this period, I had so many different voices in my head & my body, all these different parts of me trying to speak at the same time - the overlapping vocal tracks try to capture & give voice to that experience. 

This tells a story about the journey towards wellness, moving beyond the stuckness, and finally finding your way out of the darkness & into the light.

What if we are the wind? The earth? The trees? What if our bodies are extensions of the world around you & me? What do we have to learn from the way we treat our Mother Earth & how that reflects on how we treat our bodies?
